Default Old guy > my car.

So I was on my way to the gym this afternoon and I decided to go to the new one they just built out me. So im in the left turn lane on the outside(it was a doube turn lane) the light turns green and I go. Right after I complete the turn I see the van on the inside just heading into my lane and then BAM. the ****ing dude goes all the way from the inside turn lane to the outside lane all while sliding against my car. So now im behind the dude and he just ****ing keeps going! So I think he's trying to run and **** so I put it back in gear and start following him.

Luckly he pulled over and it was some 70 year old dude and his handicapped wife! Waited like an hour and a half for the damn sheriff to show up, they said they couldnt issue anybody a ticket since there were no eye witnesses and our stories of what happened were conflicting, even though its pretty obvious what happened. I am still incredibly pissed off about this, just for the simple fact that the car isnt even 2 weeks old and now I wont be able to drive it for god knows how long

On to the carnage....

Looks like the bumper, and all supporting pieces will need to be replaced, new fender liner, paint the mirror, new wheel, and something in the suspension is bent pretty bad, it wont even drive straight without a constant fight with the wheel.

I will be calling my insurance to have the damage adjusted and then its off to the dealership. Which reminds me, does anybody recommend a certain dealership for this kind of stuff? I know camelback has a pretty bad rep for their service department, but what about the others?

Oh dude, so get this. On the way back to my house in the car, putting along at like 30MPH i come up to power to turn right off southern, look left, there is only 1 car coming but he's in the turn lane, so I start to go and the ****ing dude just pull out of the turn lane and decides to go straight nearly taking the whole front of my car off. Guess what, another ****ing old dude!

People need to learn how to ****ing drive, seriously.

damn.... i read about it when you posted earlier.....
people do need to learn how to ****ing drive.... and use the turn indicator properly

it'll be ok though... hood looks ok, door too..... my guess is.... new fender... new bumper... alignment.... how was it on the way back home?

on a lighter note..... this could give you an excuse to get some lightweight parts for the front end...

yea the hood is fine, it didnt pinch the crease at all. Not sure about the door though. The car drive like hell on the way home, the steering wheel wasnt centered at all so i think something steering related is bent. Other than that it should just be a bumper, fender and wheel.

Oh if the insurance doesnt get on top of this within the next week i'll have my attorney involved in a second. It sucks though because i still have a open case from my other accident(dude ran a red light and t-boned me) so i really dont want 2 open cases haha.

Were you near Siezure world?

I've noticed its EXTREMELY dangerous to drive in East Mesa because of all the old people. I find its actually helpful to have a loud exhaust, because they hate it so much. I could give a five if they hate it. Because if they hate it, its served its purpose, they noticed me and didn't run me off the road.

I try to be ULTRA proactive when I'm driving there, always watch the blind spots (mine, and not driving in theirs), and if I see something is about to happen I'm def not afraid to drop a gear and floor it in front of the fiving car.

Thats BS, what was his story because I woulda wrote him a ticket. But if it makes you feel any better, a ticket doesnt show who was at fault, the accident report will show that. Did he call you unit 1 or 2?

Car's probably struggling to go straight b/c of the control arm being bent, which will probably also mean a new tie rod. Easy enough to fix... good luck w/ your insurance... I freaking hate old people.

I am sorry to hear about that crap.

When you get your license dont you have to pass a test which says you need to turn into your perspective lane. If you are in the very left turn lane then go into the very left lane, pretty simple to me. What about if your in a right turn lane? Oh yea, turn into the lane furthest right, almost didn't get that answer. Being in double right turn lanes are the worst.

I love when I am making a left while someone is making a right and they feel they have the right away and go all the way into the left lane almost causing an accident. Traffic would flow so much better if people followed traffic laws. This type of thing is just common sense.

No I wasnt close to Siezure world. I know it sucks driving out here because of all the old people but I can usually avoid their stupidness, in this case I had absolutely no where to go, if i would of swerved i would of jumper/smashed into the curb. Short of these 2 accidents i've never had one before, kinda funny in the last 6 months are when i have all of my accidents haha.

I'm sure he said i ran into him, bit if you look at the damage its soooo obvious what happened. I would of had to completely crank the wheel during the turn to have had only damage in the front of my car which is a lot less likely than him shooting the turn wide because he didnt "see" me. He didnt call me a unit at all lol.

Yes, people do that all the time. You are not allowed to change lanes in a intersection if the other side of said intersection has solid white lines after the cross walk, which 98% of them do, and this one did as well. So he did make a illegal lane change in the intersection. I can understand why a ticket wasnt given since there were no witnesses. They can obviously see what happened but cant say that for sure because they wernt there. I'm not really worried about that part, like I said its soooo obvious what happened.

I just want to get the car in the shop and get it fixed asap. So hopefully the insurance wont sit around on their asses or they'll be dealing with my lawyer from then on.

FWIW When I was in Defensive Driving two sundays ago, I asked if you were allowed to change lanes in the intersection, even if there are lines on each side, the ex-cop said yes, it is allowed as long as its clear. The white lines are an indication of the risk involved with changing lanes whilst in the intersection. The thicker the more dangerous.

The only time you have to stay within the white lines is like when you're turning left and it says Left Lane MUST Turn Left. This means that is the only thing you are allowed to do in that lane. Yes, that means you are not allowed to exit that lane if you don't want to be there.

BUT When your turning, like in your instance a left turn, you have to turn into your corresponding lane. That rule is non-negotiable.

But like I said, this is what I was told from the Defensive Driving instructor, so it might need to be taken with a hint of salt.

wow complete opposite here, during drivers ed we're reading up on traffic laws and in WA you can't change lanes in a intersection or within 100 ft of a intersection

Oh yeah I also asked if racing harnesses were a suitable replacement for using stock seat-belts (like wearing your harnesses on the streets)

The guy said yes, and that they are in fact way safer (duh).

For some reason I remember someone saying that they don't want you wearing them or something like that, so I asked that.

Wow I actually learned a little bit in that class

In WA sure, but I recall hearing the same thing as Black-Falcon both as an answer from a highway patrolmen, AND when I did traffic school here in AZ.

This is what I've always heard, but even if it's not always the law, it's always a good idea. Friggin old people out here do it all the time and we nearly get in wrecks often because it. They just sit there as the only car in the intersection, then there's another car (myself) comming TO the intersection, it turns green before I get there, so I roll on through, but old-SUV driver/chick cuts me off and changes lanes and nearly runs over me in the process.
