I crossed that bridge about half-an-hour earlier.

Five cars ended up off the road at that spot. Two got themselves out eventually. One more was pulled out by the road opening crew (99). One got back in the event the next day and one, a Porsche 914 that had done an end-over-end into the brush, never returned to the race although they did push the car across finish line.

noice...why was that such a bad bridge? I understand it was wet and wood...but still...were they running racing slicks, or rain tires?

I love this style of racing.

I ran La Carrera PanAmericana in '97 in a '55 Stude that I built for my then boss. What an adventure!

I don't know what each team was using. They were all DOT approved tires, but they have to use the same tires for five days. They are only allowed six tire for the event. I imagine most teams use as slick a tire as they can and hope for dry weather.

The crazy thing is they had all seen the bridge going the other way two hours earlier so they should have known it was slippery.

Opening it with IE seemed to work. Firefox just didn't show it for whatever reason. Might have had something to do with the vids being windows media embedded.

If your default player is Windows Media Player try this:

Open Windows Media Player (independently outside of Internet Explorer)
Under Tools click Options
then click Performance
then click Advanced
then un-check the "Use Video Mixing Renderer" box

See if that helps. I was getting odd colours until I did that.
