Default Does anyone here happen to own a 88-92 Supra in MA - Can I check it out?

Hi all,

Despite my best efforts to fight the the bug, I kinda sorta really want a targa, and I'm thinking of selling my STi anyways since I'm starting to lose a bit of interest in it.

I've found myself increasingly starting to look for a budget 88-92 Supra Turbo Targa to pick up and play around with this summer and if I truly like it, selling my STi to put some cash into that, my truck, my house, and my savings. I'm aware that they love to eat head gaskets and finding one that isn't beat to death is going to be a challenge at a low budget, but I do love me a good challenge.

The problem is, I've never actually been in one let alone driven one. I didn't know if anyone on here happens to have one that they'd let me check out and maybe putt around the block in to see if I even like the driving experience. I'm not looking to hoon it, or even be driven around in one that is heavily modded, just a basic stock or close to stock one that I can see what the driving position is like and whatnot.

Sadly the Mk IV cars are just too pricey for me to consider and there's nothing really else that I'm terribly interested in (at least enough to consider actually selling my STi for).

This is the only enthusiast board I frequent where a member might actually own one of these cars.

Thanks in advance!

Where in MA are you ? There is a red one outside Town Fair Tire that I think an employee owns here in Westfield.

South of Boston about halfway between Boston and Providence.

I registered on one, but for some reason I never got a confirmation, so I've browsed but never posted. I haven't seen anything on CL that has really interested me (either too much $$$ or beat, or sketchy looking), but I don't necessarily want to waste someone's time with a test drive if I'm not even sure I want one. That's why I was hoping someone here might have one.

I had one for a few years/15000 miles. Fun car but always fixing something. Most of them are haggard at this point. The seats are comfortable and the car handles pretty good for it's age/weight. Head gaskets go all the time so be prepared for that. I would never buy one again. You're probably better off finding something that is beat and needs work for cheap rather than finding a 'turn key' car because at the end of the day you'll have hours and hours and hours working on it.

Yeah, I figure what I want is a needle in a haystack but it could be fun.

I rarely drive the STi anymore so something that needs love every so often wouldn't be the end of the world for me. I figure that those night days with the roof off will make it worth it.

Wish you still had yours, I'd love to check it out.

eb_rat_7 had one for sale I almost bought, but decided to save up instead. He's located in Fitchburg if I'm not mistaken. Try to PM him.

I had one for awhile. The person I sold it to is looking to sell it if you are interested. Fully built bottom end and lots of upgraded parts.

PM me and I can get you more information.

Thanks for the heads up, but Fitchburg is a bit of a haul for right now.

If it's built at all, it's well out of my budget. Thanks for the offer though.

Had a few of them, fun to play around with. If you go with a targa make an x brace for it to keep it ridged.

I know you said you are looking to pick one up for this summer to drive. However I do have a 1990 targa turbo. Only problem is the engine blew so I pulled the engine with the intent to put a 1jz in which is currently sitting on an engine stand in my garage. I'm actually looking to sell it now since I still have to get my swapped rs running again and just recently bought a brz. Therefore I really don't want/need it anymore. If you wanna come down to check it out anyways let me know.

That's probably the route I would go but I guarantee if I bought a project it'd never run again. Wish it ran!

Thanks for all the help and input everyone. I know its a stretch asking on a Subaru forum!
