Jackpot!

Great EA engine swap info

http://www.vintagesubaruparts.com/engswap.htm

Quote:
Swapping an EA61 to an EA63:

Bolt-in, no mods necessary. Reuse your original intake, carb, and distributor. Some late EA63 used the wider bellhousing, so you might want to snag that and the starter too, just incase. Clutches and Pressure plates are identical. An evening job!

Swapping an EA61 to an EA71 or EA81:

You will need a complete EA71/81 to do the swap, as everything under the hood must be changed. This is a bolt-in swap. You will reuse the EA61 clutch disc, but the pressureplate, starter, flywheel, and bellhousing off of the EA71/81 must be used. A nice weekend project!

Actually, the thing doesnt look in too bad a shape considering its age. Much better than the 73 Jag I started restoring a few years back.

I read through the whole thread and no one has asked how many miles are on it?

Its only a 5-digit speedo, and says 80k... So its either 80k, 180k, 280k, or more... I presume 180k.

Oh, and check out this old photo:

I thought only the 1300s and 1400s were sleeved. The 1100 is too?

I was a little perturbed about you thinking about an EA71 swap, but if the 1100 is sleeved, I don't blame you

Oh, and please... please... PLEASE... no more comments about STi swaps for the love of God.

Don't get me wrong, i'd love to keep the dual-port heads...

Its just those sleeves man... Such a pain if they aren't 100%

Either way, i'm defiantly thinking weber + delta cams + full new exhaust (which i'd need anyway) with whichever EA configuration it ends up with.

I now have a key!

Took the ignition to a locksmith near work during lunch. The key works for all the doors/trunk and even the gas cap!

I might work on trying to start it this weekend...

Looking good man!

I'll check my stash and see if I have any FF1 parts lying around, if I do, they are yours.

Day 6:

Well it was actually some of Saturday and Sunday...

I decided after looking at most of the hoses that they needed to be replaced before I tried starting it. I had some trouble getting the right oil cap, but I found this rubber one that at least plugs the hole for now. I also had to bring back the oil filter I got since it wasnt the right part number (used the Fram filter that was on it to reference which one to get).

I replaced the fuel lines, all the easy-to-get to vacuum hoses, and the top two radiator hoses...

As you can see, theres some sort of wierd smog pump setup on this car. It will be complicated to remove if I decide to do so, i'd need to replace the metal breather lines with something else at the least in order to do so.

I also managed to free up the frozen throttle... That odd 90 degree turn thing its attached to siezed up, and a bit of pb blaster and silicone spray got it operating nicely

Here are a couple of detail engine pics for those interested:

Next up...

Starting it Its got oil and coolant now after re-attaching the lines. Ill need to put in a battery, swap out the plugs and put in the new wires and distributor cap/rotor, and see what happens...

That thing is awesome. Good luck though, that body is going to be more sheet metal and bondo than anything. Still, rare as can be. I have a neighbour with one of those old subaru vw bus looking things that are like the size of a breadbox. I wonder if its for sale...
