Default The FF-1 That Got Away

Kostamojen,

After spending a long evening reading this entire thread and really enjoying the story and photos behind your FF-1 restoration, I was inspired to dig through my photo archives and post shots of my first car. If you want to see a '71 or '72 (I was never sure which) FF-1 that was loved by its owner, visit its page on my website.

My father bought the car with 600 miles on it from a used-car dealer in Columbus, Miss. I learned to drive with this car, and it became mine around the 65,000-mile mark when my mother bought a '79 Subaru DL four-door. The yellow Suub stayed with me until about halfway through college when my father sold it for about $1,000 less than its original purchase price.

Although that FF-1 is long gone, today I enjoy my wife's '07 Forester XT. You are lucky to have found one of these fun little cars in good condition. I am amazed by the amount of work you have put into tracking down parts and getting the mechanical and body pieces perfect.

Those photos are fantastic!

I of course had to add them to my extensive collection of FF-1 photos. I surprisingly have VERY few that are actually from the US, most are photos from Japan so I really appreciate the effort you made in scanning and uploading those

I could have used original parts, but engine wise what I'm using for the engine will make my life considerably easier. And if the transmission works as planed, it will also make the car much easier to drive.

BTW, that bearing is available from Subaru! Ordered it, will be here Saturday
Understood thanks!

But I have a big issue...

I DON'T HAVE THE LOCKING WASHERS FOR THIS FLYWHEEL!!! I need some ASAP for a 1300/1400 (EA62/EA63). There are 4 of them that lock down the flywheel, I didn't get any with this motor or the other EA63 I had awhile ago! I need them to be able to assemble the drivetrain!

The part number is supposedly 813738610

What a jewel! Good job to you!

Got the bolts! Everything is bolted up but not in the car yet.

How do I test the clutch to make sure it disengages properly?

Alright, got everything working properly now, the clutch disengages.

Now the question is, who wants to help me install the drivetrain this week?

Manual labor or an engine lift.

Looks like I can get a lift this weekend, so all might be good

A lift? Why? You could probably get your girlfriend to lift the drivetrain and set it in the car.

Awesome build, good luck with completing it.
