Talking Sound Sytem Info

Can anybody help me out with a legacy Question. Have a 01 Legacy Gt with the upgrade sound system. I want to get some better sound but do not have money to burn. Want to upgrade slowly as I get money. Does any body know what kind of deck we have(ie Manfucture) also would like to know about speakers... What size are they in the doors and mounting depth; tweeter also...
Thanks for all the help....

DOC,
Most if not all Subie OEM equip has been Panasonic.
Not able to get to my Crutchfield catalog at work, but they list speaker dimensions in the fitment guide, so you may want to pick one up. You can also log onto www.crutchfield.com and go through their installation section to see what they carry that will fit. Their prices aren't always competitive but their catalog is a wealth of info, and their hot-line people are always very helpful. At least that's been my experience over the years.

I did my system in stages, did not have the money to do everything at once.

I started with a head unit, Alpine 7827....each head unit is different, has different features, I have my preference, but listen to different ones, get one that fits your budget and listening style.

Everything else in my system has been replaced, the head unit is the only thing I installed and haven't ugpraded. I bought front speakers infinity kappa 63i's next along with a series 1 fausgate amp and B-stock fausgate woofer. That was alright, the fausgate woofer rattled, ended up swappin up for a JL 12w-D4. Ran that for a while, ended up gettin another fausgate punch 40 amp, did some playin with that, got a usa acoustics amp from crutchfield....POS, that thing was horrible...returned that....tried a kicker amp....didn't like that either...not enough power for the cost. Got a screamin deal on a puch 200 amp to run the sub. Picked up a phoenix gold eq 215x, also picked up a phoenix gold line driver. Added a set of rear 62i's.....needed a new amp, bought an Alpine MRV 401 to power the kappas. The JL sub crapped under warranty...got a new one......the 63i's, one of the tweeter parts came undone....got a new upgraded set 63.i's

Did some custom fab work to the rear deck lid to add ports to the cabin, custom made a box for the sub, added 1 farad cap.

So as you can see, I've been down the buying slowly and upgrading and getting it to the way I want it. I slowly built it, over a period of 3-4 years. So after that time and roughly $3000 it's pretty well as good as you're going to get in my car. The clarity, quality, imaging is some of the best I have heard.

Check out my site for more specific info on each componant, pics of the install, and what not

If you have specific questions holler

Josh
