Need something for the new baby. $200-$300 get me something worthwhile? If not how much? I'm not looking to do any professional just a good solid performer. Good bang for the buck like Keif's mum.

Throw out some suggestions please.

I just got a Sony DSC-w55 and I like it a ton. Small, takes good pics and the video is great. I mount it in my car for autocross too and it works wonders.

A640 is a great value.

If you want maximum performance for the dollar, the Fuji Finepix F40 is a great camera.

Tony... we have/had the same camera. I decided to upgrade and have been way happy with my choice. Same camera, now with a little BAM!.

I got a very similar package for ~$200 and have yet to be disapointed.

RickRoll, while I did like the Kodak the quality of build was terrible. It basically fell apart on me.

So did mine, after 4 years. It will won't break until way after it's obsolete technology. C'mon, 3.1 pixels?? That was so 1999.

I'd recommend the Hasselblad H3D-39.

At a meager 39.0 megapixels, it's quite the bargain!

EDIT: ^^ I picked up an older model of that camera for my brother a while back, great camera.
My suggestion above was for a smaller, point and shoot version with a 10X Leica lens

I've sold cameras at OfficeMax for 3 years back in the day and my opinion is: Panasonic > Canon > Olympus > *

Alright I need more input.

I'm leaning toward a Cannon.

Can you find the Powershot S3 for cheap now?

I have it, love it. Good solid Optical zoom ftw.

Oh snap, you can-

That was my recommendation...I just recommended it to a friend recently. I couldn't believe it was that cheap, either. Of course, now there's an S5 and S7, or sumpin', so I'm sure that has something to do with it.

$281 at b&h. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/425379-REG/Canon_

Not sure I want the bigger style of camera. Maybe more point and shoot. Mother in law has the Cannon A750 (?) which we like. I know that S3 is quality.
