Default CEL and trouble starting... im stumped

Hello, my 95 subaru legacy LS, auto awd has had problems starting. The starter will click but the engine will not start. It throws a CEL so i went and pulled the code. THe code is P1101. the autozone computer said i had an improper air/fuel mixture but i look online and it says it is the Neutral Position Switch Circuit High Input (A/T). I looked online and other ppl who have had this problem say thier started doesnt engage. Mine is turning over it just wont start. I have checked numerous sensors and all of them are good including the MAF sensor and the O2 sensor. I have an extra neutral switch laying around from another trans i swapped so i might try that. Does anybody have any suggestions? Also lately while driving the dash clicks. I will be on the freeway, give the car gas and i hear a relay click. Im not sure what triggers it.

Well the Neutral Safety shouldn't let the engine turn over, but it may be disabling the ignition still. The simple way is to see if there is spark when it acts up. If the plugs don't spark I would suspect the switch/wiring, or shift linkage needs attention. If your car does spark and won't start check the fuel pump circuit (fuse, relay, pump) for faults. That could explain an AF code. Just shooting form the hip here...

it has a new coil, fuel pump ,spark plugs. I replaced the nuetral switch and made sure it was set-up right. I still here the dash clicking more frequently so im gonna tear into it this weekend and check the relays related to fuel and spark. Im looking at the wiring diagram and if chilton hasn't forgot anything it doesnt seem to bad. THings to check so far is the fuel pump relay and anything related in line to it. Hopefully it wont want to start when i look into it so i can re-create the problem. still dont know why the OBDII reader shows a P1101 code which is the nuetral safet switch but under description shows air/fuel mixture. I only have one code and i have check a few times this week.

well i replaced the nuetral safety switch and checked the adjustment. I also replaced the cam sensor. Still no luck, it starts sometimes and other times the starter just turns but the engine doesnt want to fire.

Have you verified if you have spark when your car won't start?

Also you can spray some carburator cleaner in your intake, if your engine fires then you need to concentrate on fuel. I would reccomend doing thids behind your MAF so as not to damage it with solvent.
