Default 4eat torque convertor

I just pulled the TC out of my 98 legacy to send to Pro Torque and it has a long shaft attached that came out with it, it seems to be loosely attached but doesn't pull out. Is this piece intended to stay with the TC or does it come off?

The Haynes Manual is as useless as the Chilton's used to be, I see they have gone down the same path. the table of contents is just a list of different reasons to take it to the dealer.

I thought I should ask before I try to pop the shaft out, it feels like it has a spring clip holding it in.

Thanks
