Default Anyone have a motorcycle license?

Well, after reading about the new Ninja 250R, I think I'm finally going to get a bike. Sounds like a great way to start off, so I'm gonna start saving. It'll end up saving me tons of money in gas for my 4 mile Yuma Road commute

... Anyone have an AZ motorcycle license? What does it take to get one? How much $ am I looking at (the bike is about $3500)?

I suggest taking a class. Its kinda like driver ed but for bikes. It serves the same purpose as well in the fact that you dont have to do the test at the DMV. Its very informative and will help you ride safer here in AZ. I love bikes but I dont think i'll ever own another here in AZ unless it was just for pure weekend/fun use and not a real mode of transportation.

yes, I have one .. I ride my M50 everyday and I highly and strongly suggest taking the MSF course. It's money well spent and it gets you the M endorsement. It's also very good in terms of learning & gaining experience.

IIRC the class is like $200 and runs 4 hours on a Friday night, then your choice of morning or afternoon on Sat & Sunday. Friday night is the written test & Sunday is the live exam while you are riding

I'm not going to. I've done my homework, and although I've never owned a bike or gotten a license, I've driven a few. I know me, and getting a "fast" bike at first is a very, very bad idea. i'll probably end up working my way up (and a 250R is a VERY easy bike to sell used), but I'm not going to start off already ahead of myself.

I wouldnt start off with anything bigger than a 600cc. the 250 will be a great bike to learn on and if the resell is as good as you say you wont have any worries when you want to upgrade.

^^^ How long have they been there?
I went to the one on Indian School and 28th ave or somthing. the one by the UTI school. Its been a couple years now though.

Class and course in a three event. first Two days in class, last day on a course(or one day class and two day on course -- dont remember). Its was $200 and you get M endorsement, if you pass the test and course.

Now, I could be totally off here, but I believe "M" stands for motorcycle.

i've had mine since i was 18..that's 15 years! oi vei. my first bike was an enduro and it was awesome. no worries of potholes, bumps, sidewalks i rid myself of my street bike last year, and picked up a suzuki drz400 enduro. much more fun.

and i got my license back east, and we had to take a mandatory safety course. it wasn't an option.

Well, I'm definitely going to take the MSF when I get around to getting the bike. To be honest, the things scare the ish out of me... but I really want to get into it.

So... do get the bike, then take the MSF? In VA I know they made you do the course on their bikes. Other states, I've heard you have to bring a bike for the course.

Someone was trying to tell me you did not have to have the endorsement, it just helped on insurance. I think that website says otherwise.

You have to have it to drive a bike. Legally, you can either take the MSF course or go down to DMV and take the tests there. Having been to the class and discussed with the instructors the very item we are talking about ... the M endorsement ... the police will impound your motorcycle and give you a ticket for driving without proper licensing, just like they would if you were driving a 18 wheeler.

AZ track days at Firebird is this weekend. If your thinking seriously of getting a bike you should go. It says you can rent a bike there inexpensivly and get some good instruction. I just noticed when I was on the web site checking on going to the drags tonight. The link is http://www.aztrackday.com/v2/

Awesome... thanks man. This is something that'll be a few months down the road, so if the Track Day is an ongoing thing, I'll definitely hop on it (zing!) once I'm thru the MSF and have my endorsement.

Appreciate it.
