Default How to drive when you see police lights!

Ok Ill try not to rant but here I go...

Also this is not directed towards SWIC. But if you could tell other people that would be awesome.

So tonight I got to drive one of the new Tahoe patrol vehicles and it was pretty cool. Odometer had shy of 200 miles on it.

Well were driving around 1 AM looking for a truck that had just been carjacked at gunpoint from a comvienence store when all of a sudden the thing drives past us. So I flip around and start following it. So heres the part that pissed me off.

Lets say your driving your car and are planning on making a right turn at a red light. You pull up and when you look left a truck flies by you at a high rate of speed. you look back left and see a couple police cars comming with their lights on......THIS IS NOT THE APROPRIATE TIME TO MAKE THE TURN! And when the Tahoe comes squelling by you somewhat sideways because they had to swerve to miss you, dont look at them with a stupid look on your face.

Point is if you see police lights behind you the best thing to do is pull over to the right and stop. Its amazing how many people dont do this. I got cut off another time tonight when responding to a call of a baby not breathing. Baby was ok.

Ok rant over...thank you.

Wow, that sux man. It's disappointing how egocentric people are getting these days.

I always make way or just sit still (exception being if the lights are coming from the opposite direction and there is a median or other large barrier between the opposing lanes).

Heh... it's unbelievable how some people have no idea what the hell to do.

My buddy back in VA is a town officer in a VERY ethnically diverse town, and he always gets heated about how everyone reacts differently. Some people speed up, some people just STOP where they are, blocking traffic, etc. He actually saw a very large, very illegal young lady slam her Mitsubishi Mirage up and over the median.

Driver education is pathetic.

i see this all the time here. police, ambulance, fire trucks. people out here don't seem to know what to do. our driver education, or lackthereof is a real shame. it's far too easy to get a license.

Jesus! Just happened again... I was coming down Yuma to Estrella, and a Goodyear Town Officer behind me turned his lights on... I was in the left lane, I immediately moved all the way over to the right turn lane...

... The people that were sitting waiting for the light to turn green (it had JUST turned) just SAT there. for like... 10 seconds... then the person in th left lane finally zoomed around the guy in the right lane.

Unfreakingbelievable.

I thought they removed turn signals on cars sold in AZ? ... kinda like the special emissions thing that CA has. People here are too cool, lazy, or inconsiderate to use them... not sure which.

Yeah we caught him after he blew a tire. I would love to give ride alongs but I have to be off probation. Next summer hit me up and Ill see what I can do. Also its not a UC Tahoe its a patrol Tahoe. Gots all the lights and decals. PHX wants to get rid of all the Vics and go all Tahoes. The Tahoes cost the same as the Vics, require less maintanance, and resale is 3 times the Vics. So in the long run its a better cheaper vehicle.

i love it when someone doesnt use their blinker and i happen to have a little extra time on my hands.
i like to follow them (tends to be soccer moms) and tell them how they drive like a c-words and need to go driving school to learn the rules of the road.
i've even had a lady mace me cause she was so scared.
best part was when it didnt do anything to me (long hours in the gas chamber in the marines) she fell to her knees and kept saying "dont' hurt me please!"

i laugh my ass off and walked away.

They handle pretty decent. The guys at the driving track tested them and they performed rather well. Couldnt get one to roll even doing J turns.

I like the STI idea. I so wish I had my WRX last night. Ever see Hot Fuz, he had a WRX patrol car at the end.

I always pull over, sometimes angled to block people behind me from continuing to drive. My brother is washington state patrol and that is somethin' that pisses him off but when you're pursuing a suspect you can't stop and pull them over for stupidity. I feel your pain. Be safe out there man.

A little off subject, but what would the officer prefer I do when being pulled over? Normally when being pulled over, I turn on my blinker and wave to acknowledge that I know he is there. Then when I see a safe spot, for him and me, I pull over, turn on the dome light, roll down all windows(because I have tint) and keep my hands on the steering wheel. Now you see all the time where officers are gunned down by some crack head as they approach the vehicle, so I have always figured that if he can clearly see into the vehicle and knows what I am doing the entire time, it will make for a much less stressful situation for the both of us.

Here lies my problem. I have been interrogated 3 times and searched 2 of those times for marijuana(sp) because they said that I was trying to "air out the vehicle." I was never found to have any drugs and was not doing any drugs. I am not the type to make a big deal out of things but I am a 32 year old man with a wife and two kids. I don't think I look like a criminal(other than the fact that I am of african american decent ). I appreciate what the police do for us and support GOOD officers 100% but this is a little insane and kinda pi$$e$ me off.

So Grunt, am I doing something wrong?
