Ya I like how earls car gain another mph faster and .1 faster when he raced against me lol, I believe Ron now when he's telling me Earls sandbaggin. Maybe he was afraid i'd use that little red button, I was just getting test runs for tonight earl we'll meet again when I actually start modding the car

Ben didn't post up any timeslips, but then again it was a dedicated road racing car. He wasn't really interested in drag racing, but he did do roll races with porsche gt3s at Buttonwillow.
Anyways, for any of you asking about how to run 11s with the vf39, look a few threads below at "another fast vf39" or search downsti's mod list. There are three stis on this forum (That I know of) that are basically high 11 second setups, Downsti, Earl, DarealSti.

Nothing special on mine. Just your plain Jane Stg II hardware. Catless TBE, CAI for that ricer swoooshing sound, GST protune and mud flaps for downforce. No tools and spare, full interior and my fat ass.

Here it is guys.

My goal for the night was to prove two point. Those points being that, YES a stock turbo can do 11's which many people doubt and validating sean's 11.7 run. This car is a 11 sec car and I am not saying it because it's my car. I hit 12 flat with a very bad launch (almost not launching at all) and imagine what an okay to good launch can do. It will hit 11.89 at it's best and that's my honest opinion.

I made a total of about 15 passes, this includes two timeslip I didn't pick up because I thought I broke something and just cruised the drag.

I did two passes on 91:
Best one: 12.697 @109.843 w/ 1.913 60ft



Again, I underestimated the power of my car and didn't practice launching prior to going to the track.

Now on to race gas. I was struggling the whole night and it was very frustrating. Frustrated in myself for being cocky (I thought I can just use the launch technique I used on 91 octane untuned to launch, although it basically similar technique, I was not USE to this much power) and not practicing before hand.

I was averaging about 12.2-12.3 the whole night with some outlier in 12.045 and 12.903 both with high 115's traps.

Timeslip:
12.045 @ 115.894 with 1.823 sixty foot.

Here is the rest of the timeslip with exceptions to a few. These's are all 115's traps with the highest being 115.917mph and lowest being 115.314 mph.

Earl, your **** was a 11 sec car that night if you really wanted it to run 11's. So yeah only 2...downsti and earl. I am what earl say " somewhere on the horizon" hahaha.

Nothing harsh at all. I just hadn't yet found a post from him with another time within 1% (I think it's the NHRA that requires another run within 1% to make a record official), so I figured that I would ask. [shrug]

In my opinion, if you can't back it up, then it was just one freak run... I would honestly like to see you back it up with at least an 11.8.

well im not being touchy or pissed off.. haha
but really i have said it time and time.. when i went to the damn track i had to many issue.. i had that shifting issue of the 06 sti that if you shift fast it will cut your boost.. and the track was ****ty, i was getting 1.9 and 2.0 all day. no traction at all

check out that video thatts me running all my 4 passes on the track
listen to my car carefully on those passes. and see if you hear a sudden no sound of my car then it goes again.. cuz i basicly take my foot of the gas all the way out and gas it back it up again..

those passes on the video are not in the time order i made them
the 11.7 pass was my first pass and 12.2 with big boost cut issue is my second pass. then the 115.4 mph trap. then me racing that white cobra shifitng really really slow..

I was digging that video Sean. What more do you guys want? He has both a time slip and a video to prove his runs. For anyone who is still convinced that his stock turbo is modified, it's not! I pulled that turbo out and inspected it myself just to make sure since I'm a fair guy, and all I saw was 4 huge cracks on the hotside of that turbo. So are Earl's and Phung's(both stock turbo). Sorry guys, I gotta keep things fair. I think it's all about teamwork and for me a team stands for Together Each Achieve More!!! Nice runs guys and hopefully both drivers will get that 11 sec pass soon. Yes Earl, that includes you. Also props to both tuners Ed@eqtuning and Mike@GST. Lets keep it going!

I know that this may sound weird, but how much more stress is pushing a vf39 to run 11s on racegas than say a 20g, or fpgreen. I ask, because these times you are getting are on par with this bigger turbos, so I am assuming you are running as much power, but do you think you are putting more stress on the engine?

To make a given amount of torque, you need to exert a certain amount of force on the rod, which means that you need a fixed cylinder pressure to make that force. Power is power, so all things being equal, the wear on the motor should be pretty similar. The tune will play a big part too- add timing advance will start flame propagation earlier and earlier which means you have two forces working in opposite directions more and more (piston moving up and flame kernel moving against it). With a larger turbo, you'd probably need less timing advance to make the same power, so you could get away with less timing.
