I only wave to WRX/STi owners because most of the Subaru owners where I live are definitely NOT enthusiasts.

There are just some people you know are going to wave back, and some that you know aren't going to wave back.

For instance, the other day, I was moving along and noticed a Forester that had stopped and was waiting to turn left accross the lane I was moving in. I glanced at the dude driving and decided that he looked like the kind of Subaru driver that would apprieciate a wave, so I waved, and sure enough I got a wave back!...This all happened in about a half of a second.

Now, on the complete opposite end...I tried waving at some old lesbian driving a Legacey Outback...just for giggles...and she didn't even see me.

I thought this was going to be a thread about how the Subaru wave has crashed, and hopefully all of the ricers that have been riding it will go away and find a new wave to ride...but I digress.

I give a wave, no big if they don't wave. But I live in the south so most are friendly enough. Normally I only wave to WRX/STI owners though. I used to do a double honk, but with the edition of the Hella's plus my factory horns spliced in it's a bit obnoxious, haha

Too many Subies these days...I gave an old lady in a WRX wagon the wave about 6 months ago in Texas, and she flipped me off.

Last wave I gave.

AFAIK, the headlight blink actually started with Bimmers in the early '70s.

Tough, I'm sure Austin Healey owners, and 427 Cobra owners, etc., all got wood when they saw like cars in their day.

Too many angry freaks these days.

I find myself in the same boat all the time. It especially sucks because I drive a fugleye so no one ever really notices me to being with...ha

I limit the wave to other wrx's or sti's. I don't think it's dying off; the ones who wave are mostly young. Hope for the future.

I'll wave to a WRX or an STi, or to the occasional Outback Sport. Especially if they look like something's been modded. To me that says the driver might actually be aware of "the wave".

I almost never wave at Legacy & Legacy Outbacks. They are prolific around here. Very popular, and their owners love them, but they don't usually get that they are part of Subaru Nation.

In CT we have some pretty good subie clubs and the more I meet members the more I seem to get waved to, so i've started as well. Although I try to feel them out before I initiate any waving, sometimes you get a bad egg.

Gotta share this story:
On my old bugeye I had a shocker on the trunk lid. All the time I would have people pulling up next to me flashing the shocker, it was great when I had a date or a family member in the car and I had to either explain or play dumb. But anyway, one day I'm at a stoplight and I look in my rearview to see a grandma in her toyota with some kids in the back seat, maybe aged 6-9 boy and a girl. The grandma is looking at my trunk and starts doing some painful looking struggle of an arthritic shocker and holds it up and starts talking to the kids in the back. Judging by the body language of the 3 of them it looked like grandma was asking the kids what it meant. So as the light turns green and I pull away, I almost hit the car in front of me because I'm laughing so dam hard at grandma flashing the shocker along with her 2 grandkids in the backseat bouncing around double fisting the shocker out both sides of the car completely unknowing.
Probably one of the funniest things I've had to witness while trying to drive.

haha wow thats ridiculous. the shocker is FAR too popular around here now. it seems to be plastered all over the side of every modded car.

...on a separate note I gave a nod and a wave to a lowered WRB hawkeye sedan with exhaust in Brigantine today and got a dirty look back! what gives!!! lol.

I always try to wave, nod or thumbs up, but lately I have had trouble with the new 2008 WRX sedan. For some reason I don't recognize it until it is almost past me and miss the wave. This only happens with the 2008 - weird.
