Default Local Impreza Prices

So, the MSRP on the three 5-speed wagons are as follows:

Subaru MSRP

TS: $17,495
OS: $18,695
WRX: $23,495

Continental Prices

TS: $20,300 (approx. they sold the only one, so I can't validate the price until later)
OS: $21,375
WRX: $26,175

Desintation charges are $525 (although they should be about $675 for Alaska.) The things that gets me is the ~$2000 COLA charge. My roommate works for Continental Acura/Honda and was trying to validate the charge with things such as keeping the parking clear during the winter, cleaning the cars, etc. I don't believe that COLA can justify $2000 more for a car! That's rediculous!

Maybe they will come down (I requested some quotes from another dealer earlier, and will hopefully receive those by this afternoon.)

The thing that I don't understand is when I spoke to someone who purchased a WRX sedan, they paid a price much more in line with the MSRP (plus $675 dest. + options) and had never even HEARD about the COLA charge from Continental (which is where they got their car.)

Is there something I am missing?

e-mail a request for a quote in and deal with the internet sales guy. I got my 2002 RS auto for 19950 , not really any options at all but is was better than what the employee would have gotten!

Thats a bunch of bs. when i bought mine (first allocation) they told me that there was going to be a $2000 charge for "exclusiveness" or something along those lines. I started to get up and leave, and then he says "but we're not gonna charge you that because you preordered." What difference does it make? Anyways......it was mentioned before....keep haggling....they'll break.

I agree with the haggleing thing. Keep at it and they will come down. They did on mine, although it was near the end of the year.

A dealer I had talked to, not sure if it was my Subaru one or some other one, said that the ~$2000-5000 you see added to the car is "pure profit" and that no one should have to pay it. any "wealin & dealin" should be from the MSRP (plus the small increase for Alaska.

Then again I'm not a dealer, and the one that told me this was trying to sell me a car.

SirWally,
Got to add another fast Suby to the household huh? I am assuming that you are not trading in the RS? Are you looking at a wagon for you, or for the misses? Let me know, and also I still have that gauge we need to put in the car, unfortunately I have been insanely busy lately.

But I will talk to you more later, and let me know on the second car. If they hassle you too much, we will all go down there at once, and scare the crap out of them.

They will go down on the price, you should NEVER have to pay the $2000 markup, uinless you have a trade that is not worth crap, and they are getting you out of it or something.

Never pay the adjusted market value. When my mom bought her car there, they tried to make it stick, but we just walked out, and the next day they called us and met our offer. Also, if you are a member of a credit union, they should have a car buying service that you can try. Lastly, you can try getting the best price over the internet. If you want to take a nice drive, buy the car in Seattle and drive it up. Check the NW region for recommended dealers. Good luck. I figured Continental would have been bought out by Nye before now.

They will go down on the price! The internet quote is a good idea. I noticed that many dealerships post extremely low prices over the internet.
I bought my car from Rose and she will work for you. She talks ALOT. I had to interrupt her to get her to listen to me and she never refused to go to her manager with my outrageous requests. In the end, I got one of the lowest prices in AK.
The only thing I can say is to be more assertive with your demands. One of the biggest problems with car shoppers is they are indecisive. You need to know what you can live with and what you can live without. Winslow

Winslow talked her down because, Rose did not "sell value in the car" to Winslow.

But thats OK, cause Winslow wasn't looking for value.

I sent in some RFQ's to Continental and the guys in Fairbanks. I just got off the phone Fairbanks, and they told me that the car, after all is said and done, will cost $19936 (licensing, winterization, MSRP + options). Much better then Continental, that's for sure. Only problem is they only have a black one. Which isn't that bad!

Options:
Keyless Entry
Cargo Net
Tailpipe Extension
Tweeter Kit
MSRP 19868

7% over invoice + 299 winterization + local license fees for Anchorage (est. 190, but les s if that estimate was too much) = $19936

Has anyone else in Anchorage purchased their Suby from Fairbanks? What about you guy sup there? What was the experience like?

I may just have to fly up and buy it there, then drive down with anyone else coming to the meet! ;-)

I must also say that I liked the salesman. He told me that he drives a 2000 Blue RS with white racing stripes. That's funny! Now, what was his name?......

If you are going to have to fly up, then make them buy the ticket. I bought my truck in Kenai and they flew me up there. Of course, I had to buy the ticket then they took the cost of the price of the truck. If they want your business, then make them work for it. Continental isn't the only dealer in the state but it is convenient. I think you could get the price lower here in town if you were sweet enough. By the way, what's your time worth? Is it worth the time and effort to fly up to Fairbanks and then have to drive all the way to Anchorage for a few hundred bucks? What were the price quotes and the option differences?

That doesn't sound to bad to me. My brother bought his OB (Legacy) for $500 over invoice down in the states. From your figures, you are only paying another ~400 fo rit, so it doesn't seem too bad. Having a nice dealer definitely helps, that's almost (almost ) as important as the price. But I do agree with Winslow, is the price difference worth your time to fly up (and drive down).

What is Continnentals price?

The OS at Continental was fairly basic -- no additional options theat I can remember, and is was $21375 (before any licensing, etc.) Almost $1500 more than Fairbanks. I am going to take the mock PO to the salesman at Continental as ammo.

I still have the problem of trading my old Suby in and my wifes Ford Contour as well, which I must take into consideration, 'cause I am still making payments on them! Trading them in would probably not be an option if I purchased in Fairbanks. Hopefully that lady that looked at the Ford last night will be buy it, that will get rid of one of them, and give me some cash to help out, too! Cash is always good ;-)

What is my time worth?

Ummmm....well....uhhh...It would be a nice drive in my new Suby! Umm......How much is that worth

I think my time is worth the savings I am going to see curently, but I think that you have a point, and that if, no once I can get them down to within $500 I should just buy it here.

....and then drive halfway to Fairbanks and back for fun ....you know, to break it in.....

Definitely, try to get rid of the trades. I hate haggling over too many numbers. Taking the PO into Continental is a good idea. Don't even talk to your sales person when you go in. Go directly to the sales manager. Sales people are just mediators and can only do so much. It always surprises them when you start dealing with thier boss.

OK. Got them down to $20000 + fees (~250) with my trade ins. Gotta find out if that lady wants to Ford or not (it would give me another $1000 if she does.)

That's sounds a bit better. Plus it's down in my target montly payment range.

To tell you the truth, I am very happy that I can actually get rid of the other two, 'cause they collectively cost about $420 / month to keep in my driveway!
