Default WTB: Daily driver

Looking for a good reliable daily driver. Doesnt need to be Subaru by any means as AWD isnt needed.

Looking to spend under 1,000-6,000 depending. Obviously the cheaper the better.

Just to put it in perspective my last daily driver (before she died) was a 1995 escort with around 210k miles so I'm not all that picky.

If it's on the higher end I'd rather be it something semi enjoyable to drive (i.e. Miata, Fox body Mustang, etc).

Basically looking for something that gets decent MPG, wont require a ton of maintance, doesnt look AWFUL (3-4 different colors), and cheap to own. Thanks

Anything Saturn works good for this duty. The plastic body panels look good forever, and the motors are generally very stout. The twin cam engine is also very peppy. 38-40mpg actual.

+1. It matches your criteria exactly.

Except don't buy a single cam. You will hate life.

I owned a 2001 SL with a single cam, best basic car I have ever owned. The thing still looks new on the outside, the engine still works perfectly at 130,000. The only thing ever replaced was the clutch at 110k and a motor mount early in its life. It just runs and drives. I cannot forsee it ever stopping running and driving, plus that thing was a TANK in the snow. Back in CT I had front snow tires, and it was unstoppable. I would have my wife watch the side of the road for mailboxes in blizzards, and just drive. I used to ram through snowbanks to park the thing, backing up over and over to push the snow down. It never got stuck...ever. It would just snowplow 2 foot deep snow, I don't know what made it so good but it was.

The single cam is underpowered, but it does move the car at highway speeds. I never really had any real complaints about it. I wish Saturn still made cars that way rather than just rebranding GM junk nowadays.

How about a 240SX? A buddy of mine from Madison Motorsports is selling his daily driver, just needs some interior touch ups.

Can't go wrong for $2600!

Sorry mods thought this was in the classifieds.

Havent really thought about the Saturn I'll have to look into those. In an idea world I'd find a 99+ Miata for 7-8 grand but they seem hard to come by.

Keep the thoughts coming and if you know of anyone selling please give me a link.

There's a hot Outback in classifieds right now for $3600 too.

Love that 240. There's just too damn many cars I want to play with.

Wow, only if it was a little earlier I just sold my 1997 Eclipse RS had 126,000miles, new clutch, new window regulators, alpine headunit, legal tint, new toyo proxes with 1,000 miles on it, silverstar white lights, rockford fosgate speakers, and wires all going to the trunk under rug and stuff just incase you wanted to run an amp/subs. Sold the car for 2,300. Well, good luck, i would go with an old sentra or altima. good power to get you in and out of traffic, great gas milage.

Thanks for the links so far guys.

I guess I'll narrow this down just a tad. I am really not looking for anything wagonish.

I'm either looking for something semi stock and a beater (escort, civic, accord, etc).

My idea of a "fun" car would either be a Miata, fox body mustang, or MR2 and possible a CRX. Not much more fits my "want" list.

The STI see's winter/snow duty so rain/snow isnt a issue for the daily driver. Thanks agian folks.

I know a guy with a Subie SVX with about 60k on it. great leather interior and the stearing and transmission were completely rebuilt and both have less than 100 miles on them. I think he was asking $6,000, maybe higher but if you'd like I'll ask him.

99 civic with a D16 versus a Miata with an automatic, I'd pick the Miata.

I love my civic but, out of the box, I'm not sure I'd call one "sporty". Only the EX's got vtec and front and rear sway bars. You can turn them into hot track cars if you want to though. Probably cheaper than you can a WRX.

The Civic suspension is better than a WRX but, not as good as the Miata.

Thanks for all the links and PM guys.

Honestly if I dont end up with something dirt cheap (read under 2k dollars) I'd like to end up with either a Mustang or a Miata at this point. Please keep any idea's/offers coming. I PM'd everyone back.
