Default Tire choice for AStock for next year

The "changes for next year" thread and the GRM tire test got me thinking about tire choices for next year in my AStock rally car. At the start of the season, I decided to go with 275 V710s, thinking that they were "almost" as fast as the A6's, but with a little better wear. Also thinking that the V710s would be a slightly (mm's) better fit in the wheel well.

The recent GRM tire test compared a 245/35 V710 against a 285/35 A6, and found the V710 to be slightly faster (why they didn't test the same size A6 I don't know).

So I have three questions...

1> Anyone have actual dimensional differences between the two on an 8 inch rim?

2> Anyone have a guess as to time difference on a 60 second course of the V710 vs A6 in the same size.

3> What about the time differences to the 245/40 A6?

Thanks for any input.

(And not that it matters much to this discussion, but my rally car is the EVO, not STI)

What kind of surface do you run on?

Nationals was won by more people on Hoosiers, than Kumhos this year. That said, Kumho may be having a new compound coming out for next year.

I wouldn't make a decision until the spring... if you can hold off that long.

They tried to use a 285 Kumho but couldn't get it to fit on the rim. There's a picture in the article of the failed attempt.

Right, they couldn't test the 285 V710 due to fit. But once they dropped back to the 245 for the Kumho, it would have been very useful to also test the 245 A6 for comparison.

Anyone have any additional A6 vs V710 comparison info to share?

at SCCA Nationals this last week, there's only one or two class winners running Kumhos. In most classes, the top ten or so drivers are all on Hoosiers. Is it a case of lemmings all switching to the same tire or...?

Oops somebody already said this. BTW, I'm going to run my kumhos into the ground locally, and buy new tires at Nationals. Hopefully the best tire will be obvious by then, FWIW, in 2006 the breakdown between winners at Naionals was almost exactly 50-50 A6 vs V710.

We ran the 275 v710 on our AStock 05 Sti for a year and half. It was plently fast with the v710s. It seems like the difference in the A6 versus v710 comes down to driving style, undoubtedly there is slightly more grip in the A6.
