Default WRX JDM v8 12.4 1/4 in-car vids (realtime Utec logs overlayed)

Greets,

Here's two 1/4 in-car videos of my car overlayed with realtime Utec logs of the runs:

Ran against a stang that trapped at 112 while I ran a 12.45 @ 114.5 MPH:

High quality versions:
WRX-vs-FastStang.avi - 13.6 Mb
Another url (click Request DL Link then DL file):
http://mihd.net/2xzdmp

Low quality version here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-D_xjkUQpg

A bit smoother run 12.42 @ 114.4 MPH :
HQ versions:
WRX-vs-TurboStang.avi - 14.3 Mb
http://mihd.net/3erd2a

low quality version here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nU6PCMoJu0I

All HQ vids are xvid encoded - if needed, DL the codec here: http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/

I believe my shifting needs some TLC - either I'm too rough (1st vid) or too slow (2nd vid). Despite the use of the Utec's flat-shifting LCM, the 1st to 2nd gear shift is the toughest to get right imo (as you can see from the vids). The nose of the car noticeably dips during that important shift. How can I do it better? I'm pretty sure I could drop .2 with smoother shifts.

This time, short shifting into 5th didn't help my times nor the trap speed. Running through the traps bouncing off the 8300 rpm rev limiter sure sounded great though!

Mods:

02 WRX
JDM STi v8
JDM 6 speed non-dccd
FP Green 7cm @ ~20-21 psi
Tial 38mm EWG - UR uppipe
3" Brullen Cat'ed exhaust + custom dump-pipe muffler
TXS TMIC v1
UR 785cc
UTEC v5.8 in speed-density fueling mode
94 octane (1/2 tank)
RE-92s
temp was 27 degrees celcius (~82F)
full interior + spare

Best run thread (where I ran a 12.35 @ 115.4):

thats a pretty sweet vid with the overlay. Just barely taping the rev limiter at the end there. very nice. and good to see you taking it to a mustang.

Thanks guys - it took me a while to figure out how to make that overlay work.

On the run vs the mustang that trapped at 112, I did knock once while launching. Yet at the end of the runs, riding the rev limiter will trigger the knock sensor (flashing CE light) in reading a false knock condition - no real knock happening up there. I'll have to work on my AFRs, seem to be getting a bit too rich at 7500 rpm and up - want to target low 11s.

Damn, that's some high revs at launch. How is your clutch holding up? Love the video.

Iglooman: The stock 6 speed clutch is holding out fine - grabs instantly. I'm also using the original R160. The RE-92s spin relatively easily on the launch which helps reduce the stress that the drive train goes through. I find that setting the launch control at a higher rpm helps build more boost at the line and avoids any bogging. The best 60' I've ever managed with a ~6700 rpm launch was a 1.765 - not that good. I could try to reduce tire pressures the next time...

Here's my quick and dirty notes I made on how to make the vids with the utec logs overlayed:

- cut original DV avi to size with AviTrimmer (freeware)
- run Disp.bat (see below) on the utec log. Tweak the sleep delay (in ms) so that the playback is running at 1/5th sec.
- Run Disp.bat and screen capture the output to an avi file with AviScreen classic (freeware)
- import the cut DV avi into AviTricks (freeware) - create UTEC log headers
- add the screen-captured Disp.avi as a movie overlay in AviTricks - size as required
- save avi (with the embedded overlay) as uncompressed avi without sound (cause AviTricks crashes while exporting avis with sound)
- export the cut DV avi's WAV via Virtual Dub (freeware)
- import the avi (with overlay) into vdubmod - load processor settings (DG smart deinterlace 2.8 + resize to 640x480)
- merge exported wav stream as AC3 into avi (with overlay).
- save as xvid with 3.5 quant settings HQ everything single pass.

(The last 3 parts could be done with Windows Media Maker - at a lower quality though)

Disp.bat:

@echo off
cls
rem timer
@for /F "tokens=*" %%a in (3-vsfaststang-ok!.txt) do (
@sleep -m 200
@echo %%a
)
rem timer /s

The trickiest part is syncing up the overlayed Disp.avi to the cut DV.avi - quite a bit of trial and error involved.
I'll try to make a few more vids like this.

Any more vids recently? Do you think it can be possible to do the same w/
enginuity's data logs?

I haven't had much time to edit the other vids yet. I'll try to get them out sometime next week.

As for Enginuity's logs - sure, as long as the logs can be displayed in a simple text output format separated by a common delimiter (tab, space, comma, etc), the method I used can be easily adapted to any ECU's log output.

My car is also down for the count right now, I can't build more than 8-10 psi of boost without hearing a really loud howling sound. Either the newly installed catalytic converter has melted and partially blocked the exhaust or the FP Green has had it... Will find out soon.
