Question will 235/40-17 rub on stock 03 WRX Sedan

Hey guys,

Just wondering if I can fit 235/40-17 tires (w/17 x 7.5 wheels) on my 03 wrx sedan without having to modify (roll) anything? Also, will there be any rubbing issues with stock suspension or down the road when I get my kyb agx setup?

Thanks,
Drew

None at all....especially on stock suspension so your good to go! I run a 235-40-18 tire dropped on Tein H techs and never had a problem.

Thanks Rwu00313,

You really eased my fear, I already bought the tires and I am going to get them mounted tomorrow with my new wheels, but when they came yesterday, they looked huge compared to my 205 stockers!! Thats why I was wondering about the fenderwells.

Do you think it will rub the rear fender if you lower the car??

I want 235 real bad but dont want to roll the fender. I plan to lower my car too.

I have 8.0x17 inches offset+44 wheel.

What is yours?

I have a set of 235/45/17 yoko ao48's that do rub, so stay with the 235/40/17.

A lot of it depends on what kind of tire you run, they are all different. I run 235/45/17's (a little taller than stock) with a 1" drop on JDM pinks which have decently stiff spring rates and it rubs in the rear if I have anyone in the back and I throw it around a corner. I also run -2.7 front and -2.5 rear camber.

If you stick with the 230/40/17 and run a good amount of negative camber, say -2.0 I can almost guarantee you will be fine.

Good luck.

Thank you both for helping and sharing

FYI, I just tried 17x8 off44 and RE-01R 235/45/17 lowered with not-quite- stiff PSS9 (quite low, the rear tire almost tuck in rear fender). Four people in the car and drove quite hard. No rubbing at all!! He even has the rubber strip on his rear fender lip still!!

Very stange. I wonder why his wheels clear the rear fender with such fat tires??

One thing i do observe is his rear wheels have quite aggressive negative camber, -2 degrees, eyeballed. I asked him if he tried to max out the rear camber? And he said no....

Negative camber happens naturally when you lower the rear, I use camber bolts to decrease the negative in the rear.

But I'm rollin my fenders soon to prepare for bigger tires going on when summer rolls around again.

I had 235/40/17 615's before the re01r's and they did not rub either. Just to give you another tire. Some tires run a bit wider (I don't know why)

He has the PSS9's which are much stiffer than my springs. Mine barely rub when I have people in the back under extreme handling conditions. With coilovers I am sure it wouldn't rub at all.
