I WAS WONDERING IF ANY BODY WAS RUNNING THE MSD DIS IGN SYS. FOR THEIR CAR. THIS GUY AT WORK IS TELLING ME THAT THE DIS IS FOR RACING ONLY AND TO RUN THE 6AL BOX THAT MSD ALSO OFFERS. ANY INFO ON THIS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

Moving on. I'm guessin' your friend is a muscle car kinda guy, huh? He's probably never dealt with a car that uses a distributorless ignition. The MSD DIS-2 and DIS-4 are not just for racing applications, they're for cars that have a distributorless ignition (which is what DIS stands for - Distributorless Ignition System). I don't think there's any way to use the 6AL on a car without a distributor. As far as I know, the 6AL determines when and how the coil fires, but a car with a distributorless ignition doesn't use a conventional coil.

I'm sure one could confirm all this at www.msdignition.com - try seeing what you can find out there.
