Default Any recommended dirt/gravel roads from L.A. to the Sierras?

I'll be camping in the Sierra Nevada's (Big Pine) this weekend and would like to hit some dirt/gravel roads on the way. I'll be heading out from Pasadena Friday morning.

Any recommendations? thx

Probably won't be too far from El Mirage off the 395...

Have fun out there and stay warm! I just got back from a week of backpacking at the Ansel Adams Wilderness on Sunday and it snowed there! We had to get out of there a day early to make sure we can hike out of there safely.

Shadow Mountain Road, running west of 395, north of Victorville might be fun. If you get a map, follow Ave G east out of Palmdale/Lancaster, it turns into Shadow Mountain, then you have to take Blanco Rd when it zigs south and then turn left back onto Shadow Mountain. I think it is about 5+ miles or so of good dirt. If you try it, report back and let us know how it was. Have fun.

Thx for the tips. I'll be sure to report back if I make it out there and back.

Cheers.
