Default which car is going to be a easier platform for me to turbo..

Well a friend of mine is going to be getting a subaru soon. he wants what I have because he wants a "quick" car that is AWD so he can move around in the snow durring the horrid chicago weather. Well he wants a subaru. he is going from a v6 ruster to a scoobie soon. Well since I am the "rice master". it will be my duity till he knows up(which will be soon to help him pick out a good one. Well he is going to have a little bit to play with...mabye around 19k. Wel I am thinking he is going t want to go turbo if he drives my rs after I finish my turbo kit this summer. So my ideas on platforms.
5/auto (he hasn't decided yet)
01 2.5rs (lsd and looks)
forester (he is into suv's and well he might like it)
2.2L (what year is a good year) or 1.8L (sti conversion car)

Well I see it as this also...2.5rs stick is fast in stock but not as fast as rs-t
H is not going to be able to afford a turbo kit if he gets and 01 so why doesn't he get a high milage 2.2l for 10k and turbo/nitrous it with the 7k extra? Any ideas or things you can say is helpful.

If you have the garage space, time, and a little know how. Oh and lots of aspirin I would just start with a 94 or 95 1.8L AWD 5sp or Auto, your preference. Drive the crap out of it and try to blow the motor so you "have" to replace it. Get a 2.2L turbo block from subaruparts.com for $1200 and a used 2.5L for about $800. Mate the two together and you have a damn good base.

You then might want to upgrade the brakes, fuel system, clutch (not too good, otherwise gears might pop), flywheel, engine management, nice turbo, 3" exhaust, intercooler of your choice (fmic or tmic), wheels, fuel cell?, seats, front bumper, updated hood and grill.

There ya go, a modern looking Impreza that hauls ass.

I think a turbocharged Forester would kick ass! Put a front mount on it so he doesn't have to cut the hood, and bam. Yea, Forester would rock!

I am trying to talk him into the forester...but I think that the funest project would be a 2.2L....or the way i-clubbers are droping wrx's and stuff...mabye get a wrx engine and drop it in a forester...hahaha.
I don't know yet.

Actualy I'd look to see what kind of 97 Legacy Brighton wagons are around. There was one local for a mere $10K ASKING. 2.2L 5spd. Its the stripper model so its light and atleast as fast as the avg 2.5L legacy. Then you spend $5K getting a wrecked WRX or GT-B 1/2 cut with the rear suspension, hubs, axles, rims, etc thrown in. Oh and don't forget to make them include the spoiler and tail lamps if you fish it out of a GT-B.
