Hey all,
My friends 94 Legacy automatic just developed a problem. The automatic disengagement of the shift interlock no longer works. Meaning if you step on the brake, the shifter will still no longer come out of park. There is a small button on the front of the shift column that you can press to manually release the lock, but this is not much fun. The owners manual says that this is an electrical problem and I agree. Anybody have knowledge of the wiring of the system. Pehaps it is a bad switch, or solenoid? Thank you very much, Dave

Can you still hear the 'click' when you step on the brake?
There is an actuator attached to the brake pedal and a solenoid on the shifter. It's easy for soda or something to get spilled into the shifter and gum up the solenoid - I've had to fix our GT once for that, and looks like a second time is coming up. Anyway, in our case the solenoid would click but not move so the shifter was stuck in park. [RICHR] |

Nope, no click to be heard.
Can you give me some instructions on how to go about fixing this? Thank you! Dave |

Get a flatbed to carry it to Exeter Subaru.
You can press that black button the in front of the shift assembly to manually bypass the interlock. Roger |

Do your brake lights stilll work when u press the brake?
I had a problem like this but mine was the fuse blew and basically welded itself into the slot. With that fuse blown the shifter can't be moved. Could be worth looking into |
