Default my car developed a whining noise (it is RPM dependent)

Like I stated in the thread title, my car has developed a whining noise from under the hood. It can easily be heard with the windows up through the firewall and seems to be RPM dependent. It doesn't seem to match the RPMs but definitely accelerates with them. It seems that it most likely is coming from the top of the motor but I didn't start to rule anything out. I am feeling it is a belt or motor accessory. Anyone have this happen to them and what was it?

I hate the fact that my car has a turbo and sounds like an '04 Cobra!

It's pretty easy to pull the alternator and A/C belts. The car will run with them off. That will eliminate your A/C compressor, alternator and power steering pumps as possible culprits.

If that doesn't eliminate the noise, pop off the timing belt cover and see if the noise is coming from there (bad idlers / tensioner, perhaps).
