Default Rubbing and Offset

Hi All,

My track setup this year was Hoosier R3S05's 245/40's on 17 X 7.5 Rota SDR (+48 offset).

The tires in the rear would rub (VERY slightly) on the strut in high lateral load corners. The struts have nice shiny pink spots now!

Barring getting new wheels. If I were to use a spacer (10mm...?)

Would I:

a) Run a spacer in the rear and not in the front...?
b) run spacers on all four corners and squeeze 255/40's on 7.5 rim?

What is the widest width rim (and what offset)people have been able to get away with on the track without flaring/rolling fenders? Did they have to reduce body roll (coilovers, swaybars) to get enough clearance under high lateral loads?

I'm totally surprised they rub on the strut. People are running 275s 17x8 wheels in your offset and not rubbing.

Why go with such a big spacer? If you have only a slight rub like that I'd either forget about it, use camber bolts back there to get more clearance, or run a 3mm spacer.

Default widest tire for 07 STI?

Just curious what I would need to do to put 275 wide tirs on my stock wheels. The manual says these are 17x8 wheels. I have no othermods to the car. Would I be able to just change to 275wide tires on all four wheels without and rubbing problems, and without any touching in the wheel wells of the front when turning the tires all the way left or right? Thanks

Are you talking about for autocross or otherwise?

You can't really do it with a street tire.

With stock wheels and suspension, you need a 3-5mm spacer to clear the strut with 275s. With r comps and a 5mm spacer I'd get lonnger studs too.
