You should have made it clear on your invitation.

Isn't it clear on the invitations you gave out? Some of them will have the reception details on it, some won't?

Guests with invitations know the true location of your reception.

Just tell the people who don't have invites to go somewhere else.

"For those of you who did not receive invitations to the reception, please join us at <insert place here> immediately following the ceremony. We look forward to seeing you all there!"

Why did you invite them to the ceremony if you didn't even want them there for the reception?

....or are you short on funds and couldn't afford all of them? But that can't be true, you're offering $5 on the internet.

Those lucky three who received a golden ticket in their invitation will get to screw me condomless on the dance floor.

If it's due to a lack of funds:
Thank everyone for coming, then say something like "Although we wish we could invite everyone to the reception, we cannot afford to do so, but we thank you for joining us for the ceremony."

Those with reception invites know that they're going and they know where to go. There's no need to re-invite them to join you at the end of the wedding. And you should thank the uninvited for coming and putting up with your broke ass.

This is a tough one, as I have never heard of being invited to the ceremony, but not to the reception.

Did you set up the invitations in a manner that would let people know this?

An akward situation is afoot.

Please forgive my new wife's parents for being cheapskates, but they didn't put aside enough money to cover the wedding and the reception for everyone, so those of you with invitations follow me, and the rest of you, thanks for coming.

Where's my five dollars?

I wouldn't say it never fails, as I've never heard of this before...

But why not have a sign out front announcing the wedding, with "reception to follow, by invitation only." on it.

you don't say a word about the reception. Those invited, will know when and where. Those who don't, when they ask, you say, Oh, I'm sorry, we're doing a small intimate party, thanks for coming to the ceremony, though!

Ah, I read the further posts... open to the public for the wedding.

That's still just weird.

Now, there may be further parties AFTER the reception... those are up for grabs, but you tell people PRIVATELY about it, and make it known that it's a private affair.
