Default Anyone running SMC Kit?

I was wondering if anyone is running the SMC methanol injection kit. I am in the works for one right now and would like to know the reliability of it, how long have you had it on your car, any problems? Any advice will help.

I am also looking at the aquamist kit.....

I would like to go aquamist but my tuner will tune it but won't install it. Did you install the aquamist yourself?

You might have more luck in a different forum subsection. I think the engine one or whatever it's called.

I was only posting it in here because if someone that is local has the kit or installed it themselves I might be able to get a hand in installation or be able to look at the setup that they have.

^^supposedly the instructions are unclear. We'll see what happens, I would get the aquamist kit from Al at Dynoflash and installed then get tuned by XXChris.
This is if I dont hear anything good back about SMC.

I have the SMC on 06 WRX, and it's pretty user-friendly. The tough part is to locate the bottle on the 06, I think trunk bottle is a must on the 06. Besides that, the installation is pretty easy as it is the operation of this kit.

I have yet to EVER hear anything bad about the SMC kits. I run them, my buddy runs one, I have several other friends running them.

Aquamist is nice, but you get ZERO gains over the SMC kit for the huge price difference.
Coolingmist is nice, but again, a lot more money, and their universal trunk mount kit is more money, and comes with a plastic line.

You dont NEED a failsafe. I as well as everyone I know with alch injection has at one point or another ran out of spray at full boost and not one of us had a motor failure. Its all about the tune. Set your ECU up to be very aggresive with knock detection/reaction and you most likely will be fine.

Here is the thing, more complicated does NOT = more power or even really better.

PS you would get a LOT more responses from people with it if you post it in the alchohol injection forum. I have a very in depth FAQ in there as well.

The install is CAKE on the SMC kit compared to the others, and this makes it more reliable in itself. Steve's customer service is second to none as well.

I sell all 3 brands, and I always recommend SMC over the other 2.

Smc with Aquamist fail safe gauge (dds3) ftw!

I have the Smc kit but need to grab the Aquamist fail safe gauge. My Smc pump started to leak but i haven't got time calling Smc yet. I am wondering has anyone had a problem with Smc pump leaking (pretty bad leak)? Sorry, i am off topic but i am happy that i got the Smc kit.

Thaks for the input it is very comforting to know that your motor did not blow. I tried posting this in my local forum to see if anyone had the kit so I could see it setup or possibly get help and it got moved here and I dont know why...

Not much really, about a month; I really can't complain (specially for the price). You should look for the spec c bottle or the sti's i/c sprayer bottle, so you can set it up nicely on the trunk; since there is no space for it on the 06 engine bay, specially if you have FMIC.

a buddy of mine and myself had the SMC kit installed since april and running with no problems. im running 50/50 meth and will be swithcing to 100%. and he's been running 100%. we periodically test the pump make sure its running. i recommend it. it was so simple to install.
since i have an 06 sti i have a trunk mount install using my stock water spray tank.
and my buddy is using their universal trunk mount tank.

David L.,

One issue to consider is that cheaper kits are boost based while others are boost and MAF based. Those cost more but can be tuned smoother for partial throttle conditions (like, daily driving). Like Defiant Autospeed mentioned, there's not really difference in power gains, but just food for thought when choosing a kit and you wonder why there's big price differences.

i've got a question about the electronic controller,
on the SMC kit, it sprays based on boost, but where
does it read from? the ECU or where? will it work if I'm using
a manual boost controller?
thanks

All you need to tap into is some sort of vacuum line (ie, boost gauge) thats what I have my SMC controller plugged into, inline with the Aquamist DDS3 Failsafe.. The SMC Kit works great standalone, so in the future add the Aquamist failsafe if your worried. Not had a single problem with the SMC..

Not one problem running my SMC kit for over a year at 26psi. Only problem was a bad float which would trigger the low light, but one call to Steve and I had a new float sent to me asap. Excellent product and customer service.

I would go with the SMC kit and an outside failsafe, as someone here mentioned.

I have like 6 SMC kits arriving this week
Mine just went into my FXT yesterday, I will post pics tomorrow or in the next couple days. I had to do some custom work to make a nice mounting solution in the back of my 07 forester.

SMC rocks, it's the ONLY kit I recommend to customers. Defiant pretty much covered it.

Dave - we have plenty of kits in stock, as far as I know.

5 kits arrived today

Here are some pics of my install in my FXT. I had to pull the trim off and make a board then carpet it to mount it there. But its ROCK solid in there.
