Default 2009 Nissan GT-R unmasked

Didn't see posted here:

2009 Nissan GT-R Unmasked and Revealed EARLY

Quote:
Today was quite the day if you're a GT-R fan and not so hot of a day if you work at Nissan. Information vital to Nissan and its flagship vehicle was released to the public a whole week ahead of schedule. This wasn't a PR scheme, but a broken embargo.

Google the following, NDA and you'll get this definition among many: Non-Disclosure Agreement. A statement formally acknowledging that the confidence of information provided in private will be respected.

Journos regularly sign NDAs to see new products, in our case it's very often a new car. Embargos are usually attached to an NDA. Earlier this year a select few editors, under embargo of course, had the opportunity drive the new GT-R. GT Chanel blogger, Sam Mitani, was one of those chosen editors. Motor Trend was also permitted to give the new Nissan GT-R a go. The former editor opted to honor the embargo. Motor Trend didn't.

Angus MacKenzi has released the December issue of Motor Trend way early in hopes of getting all the attention by revealing all the new information on the 2009 Nissan GT-R and the Internet is all a buzz. We've heard of screwing the pooch, but this one takes the top spot. Well, if you're going to permanently piss Nissan off, we guess the GT-R is the car do it with.

The 2009 Nissan GT-R boasts a 0-60 of 3.5 seconds. It has an 11.7-second quarter mile with a 192 mph top speed. Oh, the price, under 80K. The larger-displacement 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 produces approximately 450 horsepower.

Letting the cat out of the bag a bit early is slightly disappointing. As much as we've been dying to get all the info on the new Nissan GT-R, we'd be lying if we said that seeing it all unfold at Tokyo Motor Show wouldn't have been a treat.

Presumably a viral marketing campaign, the Black Mask continues to move forward as if nothing has happened. The site has been updated with new locations across the globe that has seen the GT-R:

10.05: Busan, Korea; Tokyo, Japan
10.12.07: Frankfurt, Germany; Rome, Italy; Dubai UAE; Grand Canyon, US; Hawaii, US; New York, US; Las Vegas, US
10.16.07: Carcassonne, France; Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

We're still sticking to our guns, guessing that OMD is behind this campaign. If so, they've been quite busy carting multiple Nissan GT-Rs across the world. The Black Mask site still has its counter up and running (less than seven days to go). The site is certain to continue with updated information up until Tokyo Motor Show. They've already put up a screen saver in the download section. It features the global map as well as a timer. Get it while it's still available

Wow that's some impressive spec.

What do you get when you cross a heavily modified 350Z with a riced-out Sentra?

BEHOLD!

I give it a meh.

While the performance numbers are excellent, it looks like a dog turd from that angle. Maybe with more pics, my opinion will be swayed.

Really? I think it's a great looking car. Then again I think my CSX and the 86' GHLS are great looking too.

I am commenting on the rear roof mostly. It looks like it slants in an awkward way. That is my only real gripe honestly. Again, maybe with more pictures I might feel differently.

Wonder how much they will go for. Dealer markup will be terrible.

If its under 70k it will probably be my next car.

That front end looks a bit....awkward. I'll reserve judgement until there're more pics.

<$80k

I thought this was supposed to be the japanese corvette? That's way too much IMHO, but what the hell do I know.
Anyone find any more pics that are of the real car?

well its way faster than a regular vanillla corvette (going by the specs posted) and costs about the same as the z06.

so that sounds like an accurate comparison to me.

The Z06 is in the same price range. And with those specs, the GT-R should be able to hold it's own against one.

Gundoo beat me to it

7:50s on the ring. 7:44 fastest? Bested a 911 Turbo at Laguna Seca.

You guys should really get out of OT once in a blue moon. Big thread in the news section.

Yeah, I realize it will compete with the Z06 in performance and price, but I always though it was supposed to be a corvette prices (not Z06) and beat it on performance.

Anyway you slice it, unless it was ~$30k, I wasn't getting one. I still think it's an awesome car, I just thought it would be closer to the $60k mark.

There's going to be like 3 models and I believe the cheapest one will be around $60k (standard GT-R) with the most expensive being the one close to $80k (EVO).

Was it Motor Trend that jumped the gun on the new WRX as well? I hope they get screwed by Nissan for ruining the surprise.

Anyways, looks pretty good and has super numbers! Kind of looks like and Evo/350z.

I predict that limited production will be targetted at three groups:

1) "New money" car collectors who want to add something "exotic" to their lineup--the same folks that modify/pimp-out G35s.

2) Spoiled rotten little rice bastards of rich parents.

3) Middle-income ricers who think they've "made it" because their NTB job pulls in $32k/year gross, and who think they can afford a $60k car as long as they're renting a really cheap apartment.

agreed on first point of dealer markup, not to mention car brokers trying to snap them up and flip them for even worse price.

and actually paying under $70K in the real world, i speculate big, fat chance.

btw my gf works for Denso electronics in torrance, ca and got to see the GTR that Sam Mitani, as well as meeting Sam himself. didnt get to sit in it tho.
