I actually saw 2 of these last summer on my trip out west, near death valley (where I also saw the new M3s testing ). They were black legacies, with the same large hood scoop. I also thought they might be the "Tuned by STi" legacy, but who knows.
Unfortunately, I only got a pretty crappy pic, but I didn't have much time to react..

There was another identical one right behind it.

The upcoming '08 STI is based on the previous (pictured) Legacy chassis... the Legacy can be had with a H6...perhaps the STI could be had with an H6t! mmmmm

btw, I'm fairly certain that the '08 STIs are not yet available here.

WRONG. This photo was sent to me via my buddy's i-phone minutes after he took it on the freeway. It's not chopped. When the driver saw that he was taking photos, he accelerated away. I have another photo of the car driving off , but you can't see much. The wheels may look distorted because of the photo, but not sure.

Moving on...

Legacy STI???

NO IT HASN'T. The closest thing, in any market, to a Legacy STI is a Legacy Tuned by STI... which is a suspension and appearance package.
I was thinking the same thing...Legacy STI. It could happen...

Isn't that the top of someone's head in the back seat? You can see it through the small rear window. It looks like a head to me, and a short person, as if it is a kid in a car seat.

Okay I know on the WRX by adjusting tire pressure you can actually change the load on the clutch, maybe there is something similar going on here. Maybe those rims provide a different load on the clutch. Other then that I'm at a loss.

According to an SPT rep the Legacy w/ Big scoop we saw a year or so ago was a 08 WRX testing mule. Not sure why they would still be out.

Its funny how all the PS 'experts' no nothing at all about taking pictures and distortion. /laugh They already explained above how when images are caught in motion -yadayadayada - the wheels could get distorted like that...YES the car was traveling in --> one direction...so YES both wheels could have been caught with the same distortion...OH NOES !

Also, for taking a picture on an i-phone, while in motion from one car to another while driving, I'd say thats pretty good. I can show you some images I took with mine in stilled, sunny days and their great for a camera phone.

So...maybe thats a widebody legacy sti coming to the states....One can only dream!

I don't think so.

If you look closely, the two spokes adjacent to the "missing" spoke are actually thicker than the other three spokes & have a different shape. This alone could balance the wheel.

Very odd looking, though.

I sent the image to someone I know who might be familar with the vehicle. He confirmed it as being a test mule, but wouldn't say what they were testing.

SOA said they are already testing diesels in california but would not tell techs which cars they were in. It could very well be a turbo diesel. Maybe a diesel engine necessitates more cooling thus the larger scoop. All perhaps. Also I doubt the US will ever see a hybrid since subaru knows it is a gimic that will last as long as the pop up tent in the pontiac aztec. I hear diesel will make it to US by 2010 but that is just what our regional reps say.
