Default Lost McGard Wheel Lock Key Now What?

Any ideas what I can do? Does anyone know if Discount or Bell Tire can get the locks off?

You can try them. Some places will have the master, others won't. Were they locks from Subaru? If so your dealer probably can get them off.

You can get a new one from McGard if you have the number, but if you have a flat now that won't help you having to wait for it to come in the mail.

Find the socket that almost fits over the outside of the wheel lock, or slides over a little bit. A 12-point would be preferred to a 6-point.

Buy a cheap version (or two) of said socket -- most auto parts stores will have them. You might also want to pick up wheel lugs.

Tap the socket onto the wheel lock with a hammer -- you don't need to get it too tight, just enough to bite.

Remove wheel lock with standard socket or breaker bar.

If you don't want to use sockets, you might be able to get by with some conduit or pipe you might have laying around. But the socket already comes in standard sizes with a convenient 3/8" drive on the back.

If you are a real jerk you could try using the "lifetime warranty" to get a new socket, but IMHO that's "cheating" since you are doing something the socket was never intended to do.

I lost one of these way back when. if you can get a piece of paper, do a rubbing of the top of the design for the lock with a crayon or something and then fax it to them at McGard they can typically match it and send you a new one..

Thats what i did, and didnt have to go get a whole new set of locks....
