Default Question of offset for 15" wheels

I'm starting a new thread since I've waded through the sticky and all I see are 16, 17 and 18" wheel questions. I know I'm comparatively old school with my '97 Impreza wagon, but the question still remains. All the stock SOA alloy wheels in a 15" size I've seen run offsets of 52 to 55mm (mostly 55). Looking through the wheels suggested by DiscountTiresOnline recently for my car, ALL of the wheels listed have a 38mm offset. Am I missing something here? I'd like to get a nicer set of after-market alloys in a 15" size but I'm troubled about the 38 offset. Thanks for any responses even if this topic has been beaten to death in the sticky.

After reading all 641 posts in the sticky thread, I've come to the conclusion that an offset of +38 is not good for my Impreza. Sorry but I'm a slow learner Anyway time to email discounttiresonline and cancel my order for wheels.

The good thing about 15" wheels is you can move up at 16" with no issues.
