Question Buying Subaru at Chevy dealership

I am thinking about to buy 03 Impreza WRX Wagon at Chevy dealership.

They say that warranty is available, but my question is "do they really know what the Subaru is all about??"

I'm from Japan, moved in two years ago. Over there, buying pre-owned Subaru at non Subaru specialty shops are not good idea. Some service depts even refuse to change spark plugs if the vehicle is Subaru.

I discovered when I was driving Legacy GT BG5 twin-turbo model over there, Engine Oil, general synthetic oil doesn't work well with my car. When I changed the oil at Subaru dealership, the difference was so obvious.

So, my past experience in Japan makes me to wonder "well, is this Chevy dealership reliable when it comes to Subaru?" The car doesn't have anything bad listed in Autocheck.

The dealership is in Richardson TX area, so if someone has some similar buying experience of Subaru from non-Subaru dealer ship, I want to hear comments.

Thks!!

With an aftermarket warranty that you buy at the dealer on a used car you can take the car anywhere you want to get it fixed. The warranty company is a completely different entity. Keep in mind this is NOT at all like a factory warranty and many people have had pretty bad experiences with them. If you plan on doing and mods at all or driving the car hard don't waste your money because if you ever have a warranty claim they will find any possible reason to deny it...

So really it doesn't matter where you buy the car. For the most part used is used. There are only 2 ways to know what you're getting on a car, buy something new, and buy a basket case...

+1 more for Davidss. the owner of the dealership most likely owns the warranty company too (they do at the dealership i work for) and are very strict about mods. you'll have to pay a buttload of money for a warranty that will cover the turbo & it's related parts.

Wow, aftermarket warranty actually saved my butt, twice. I broke my tranny twice (1st and 2nd respectfully) Warranty covered the repairs both times. The car already had mods on it, invidia downpipe, catless up pipe, and turbo xs utec w/mbc. Saved me at least 5 grand.

do some good research before you buy a warranty. ask the service writers at the dealership how it is to deal with that particular warranty company, their feedback would be valuable. educated decision is alot to as on nasioc, but give it a try

Couple hundred dollars.....needless to say in my experience the warranty paid off for me. Saved a couple thousand of dollars. Then again not everybody has to pay for a new motor at 40,000 miles.

I bought the aftermarket warranty when I bought a 00 accord coupe back in 01. The car had a screwed up tranny that was recalled (didnt know when purchased). went through 3 of them in about 70k miles. when it broke again at 125k miles, I bought the suby. It saved me countless dollars.

I bought my subie from a used car dealer here in town and bought an extended warranty along with the car. for me it payed itself off, i had the fuel rails and lines replaced under warranty at the dealer, then i learned i dont need to go to the dealer i can take it to my trusted shop and the warr will work just the same, so then i had my shop replace the ac condenser (cracked), compressor (siezed) and a leaky line under warranty.
