Somehow I think I might have ordered the wrong tactrix cable. Which one should I have, openport universal or drive by wire?

thank you very much, long story short I am an idiot and did not have the key far enough forward for it to read, I had it in the accessory position, not "ON" like it says.

Likely you are not opening the rom but something else, maybe the .xml defs that XPT supplies for you (that should be placed in the openecu\ecuflash\rommetadata\subaru folder). You should be opening most likely a .hex file (or possibly .bin).

xpt2eo1c91oct.hex is the name of the file, I recieve an error saying that ecuflash can not reconize this rom image using any of the current definitions, you can choose from one of the following,

abort
continue using without def
use wizard to create a new def

you should have received a .xml file when you purchased the xpt map. It needs to be installed in the directory I mentioned in the previous post.

Where is that at or how do I make it go there? I do not see a .xml file there, all I see is 2 adobe files, a 91 and 93 map and one other thing but when I click on that one its just computer code.

It's an intelligence test. If you can't figure this out by reading the instructions, it means you shouldn't be attempting to flash your own ECU.

Are you running windows? In explorer, go to Tools -> Folder Options -> View and uncheck 'hide extensions for known file types'. This should show you the extension of each file.

Thank you very much, I can work on cars and do all that stuff but this EM is a whole new thing for me so it takes time to learn it.

I am running windows xp right now, however I have to go to go to work. Sucks being at one of the only dealerships open on a sunday but oh well.
