Default MRT Intake

The MRT Intake is on! NO CEL! Super easy install, took less than an hour, and I'm loving it. I thought the intake sounded loud when I took off the silencer a few months ago. Now you get it all, no holds barred on the sound, BOV included. Had a friend stand about 50 feet away ('cause I wasn't sure if it was only loud inside the car) and he said people will definitely hear you coming if you're on it. Normal driving around the low 3000 rpm range sounds nice and quiet still. Here's the great part...and I know many people post negligable gains, and maybe even a loss, in only adding an intake...The quick bog between 3000 and 4000 is gone. It definitely pulls smoother. But again, without a dyno it might not be pulling harder...never know. It sure feels like it though. I have the WRXfx Intake in my trunk now, and will try it out tomorrow. I'll get you a comparison of the two. PM me if I forget and you actually care. M2 upipe and Vishnu pulley are tomorrow! I'm so happy.

Default The update...

I'd post a good long post, but I can sum it up like this...

MRT Intake:
Clean look, good performance, loud sound, big price tag, no CEL.

vs.

TCG Intake:
Stock look, very similar performance and sound, little price tag, no CEL.

To each his own!

Default MRT Turbo-back

Dunno if you have a turbo-back exhaust, but I put on the MRT turbo-back a week ago, and what a difference. I usually had to get the revs up to 3000 and slip the clutch for a "rabbit" start. Now I can slip it out at 2000, and the boost is on at 2500. Sounds MEAN - and authentic - like a performance car should. The car has so much more low-end touque I had to re-learn how to shift! Oh - and the performance was proved on the track - I beat a stock '96 (E36) M3 on rolling 1/4 mile from about 20mph on....

Question

Tinman, Do you mean, when talking about the MRT vs FX comparrison, that the FX intake has "similar power and sound" to the MRT or to stock? I guess if you mean to stock, then you are feeling more power from the MRT then from the FX.
Thanks,
Jeff

Ahem ahem, question! Question! What do you guys think about this? If...no wait...WHEN you have to service your filter, you will have to remove the bumper to get to it, right?

Just checking...thanks!

Yes, the fender liner will have to be removed to clean the MRT and similar intakes. You can see how low the filter sits in the fender. It has one hose clamp that holds it on very securly, but only takes 10 seconds to remove and reinstall.

Sorry about the confusion. Stock is quiet = no fun for me. The comparison I wrote earlier was for the WRXfx intake and MRT, which are similar in performance and sound. Don't get me wrong...to me they are BOTH better than stock in all ways.

Apologies...NO! Don't take off the bumper! Just the plastic fender liner. Hope I caught you in time.
