I say you go with:

D) Sell your WRX here, Buy WRX STi and EVO VI or VII, have your fun there and bring both cars back home to compete with each other.

well, the only thing i would be worried about is legalization of the car here.

All things being equal. Most likely you will only be able to use it as a track/race car, and not a daily - due to various federal and state issues.

so if you can live with that, then it's all cool

I already got the legalization papers for the car if I do get I can use it on the streets as a daily if I get it because I'm buying it but it's not coming with all the rally mods it's going to be the same as me buying the evo VII if it comes out in the US just the steering wheel is on the passenger side

The Emissions will still be different, as well as the lighting IIRC.

Paison I know about the lighting too and I'm just going to put regular hyper white light bulbs in the car if and when I get it but thanks for your concern.

its not just the bulbs.. the aiming properties of the lenses. Also, how did you get the legalization papers? does that 'bypass' the requirements for the safety bumpers issue - as that would be the single bigest problem for the EVO due to it's front mount intercooler.

Being a former mitsu guy (GVR4 amongst other things) - people in the DSM world have tried other methods, but has not quite worked out..

Vsigma I got the papers through a friend who has a Skyline from Japan and has no problems with it as a daily but he had to do alot of safety changes and alot of modifications to the car before he could drive it as a daily I have to do the same thing to the Lancer if I do get it I know of a place in Cali where I can go to do all the mods for me to meet the NYS emissions standards just like my friend did btw it's the same place that my friend did his skyline so I'm straight

Inferno - if you are serious about buying an Evo7, let me know..I can pkug you into my Ralliart rep. He has cars coming into this country for delivery in January '02, fully legalized, and left hand drive. He also has several Evo 6's available now (Makkinen editions) left hand drive, that are in the country now, ready to go, just not legalized for street use.

Be very wary of trying to legalize the Evo 7 through an utside firm...no crash tests have been done (mandaotry to get legalization, which is why the Skylines can now be bought here...thanks to Motorex's great work). Plus there are the emissions laws, which the Evo 7 doesn't meet without modifications. It is a VERY costly process, and one that most individual firms simply don't have the cash for. As I said, my contact is a Ralliart employee, and as such, you know the carsare 100% legalized.

Thumbs up

As simple as it sounds, remember you'll be able to get a US spec WRX for quite sometime, with that info in your pocket take the chance, do what anyone of us would do if we had the money....Get the EVO...years down the road you'll wish you did. You'll still be part of the elite AWD club and their will be noone that can touch you with that car. only one drawback...Repair parts availability and Cost of importing finding mods and OUR GAS SUCKS compared to Brittish petrol.

Basically there is no way around bringing in a Lancer for street use. You will have to actually bring in 2 of the cars.. 1 for a crash test. And if that fails 1..The gets squashed or 2 it gets shipped back to japan. Why do you thnk that the Real Lancer never came into the country. It's because of the FMI. I really don't know what would happen if you had a custom top mounted intercooler. But the front bumper support still isn't enough to pass DOT standards. Also there is no way that you can take a mirage bumper support and put it onto the lancer because Mitsu made the cars different on purpose. That's why the engine compartment is different. There is alot of hacking and fabricating to make the mitsu turbo engine fit. As for you family member that is in the army.. Been there ..Tried that.. The only way for the car to get into the country is the person in the armed forces has to be the owner of the car. He has to sighn a paper that states he will be the sole owner/driver and he cannot sell to anyone except for racing use. And if not ,,it gets destroyed. So do your research before getting involved...Gerry

Sorry dude.. I didn't mean to burst your bubble.. I alked to adam about the lancers a while ago.. It would cost around 60 to 70 grand to get one to "LEGALLY" drive on the streets. I don't get outta work till 5..The engine should be there by then..Thats if HUD trucking didn't screw me over...Later

here is the skinny staright from Ralliart....

1. Lancer Evo 7 RS - factory lightweight, stripped, next to no options, NOT ROAD LEGAL - $29,000.00 (deliveries beginning November 2001)

2. Lancer Evo 7 (non RS version) - many options, a/c, stereo, power everything, etc. - TOTALLY LEGAL FOR ROAD USE IN USA - $39,000.00 deliveries beginning January 2002 (roughly).

3. Ltd Edition Makkinen Evo 6 - NOT LEGAL FOR ROAD USE (race only) - $29,500.00

If any of you guys are truly serious and have the money for any of them, let me know....the ralliart guy I know is super cool, but has had many, many timewasters already (as you can imagine). PS, all above cars are left hand drive as well (only one I am not sure about is the Evo RS, which might be RHD)
