Default AZ DPS sucks

Just got pulled over this morning during rush hour for having a anti-photo radar plate doing 45 in a 65 in the carpool lane. The license plate is CLEARLY legible from behind the car but not at a viewing angle of 170 degrees where he tried to make his point. Glad to see DPS (Department of PUBLIC SAFETY) doing their part to keep us all safe. He also saw that I had 2 driver's licenses (lost one and then found it after I already got a new one) and told me that it is illegal to have 2 licenses and took it from me.
He went out of his way to be condescending and just a dick.

Hey C-Grunt, is there anything that I can say to a judge to discount the officers bogus claim?

That sucks man! What intersection was it? I didn't realize Chandler started putting up speed cameras

He also told me that it had to be visible from 'everywhere' so I asked him if that included from the front and sides of the car as well. I was relieved to learn that I didn't need license plates on front doors and roof. He had already written the ticket at that point so I figured it wasn't going to hurt my case anymore. This is just a total mis-application of the law... I guess no different than all the other government entities.

I dont know about az but in CA anything covering your rear plate is illegal. it could be a clear piece of plastic. you can however, have something covering your front plate to protect it from rocks and what not.

They are not illegal unilaterally. The law states, which he read to me and proved my point, the plate must be legible, which it is. It does NOT say that there can't be anything covering the plate nor does it say it needs to be visible at 170 degrees nor does it say it needs to be visible from 'every possible' angle. There are plenty of people with plain plastic covers, some even yellowing from the sun which are 100 times more illegible than mine, who are apparently not breaking the law.

the ars - is written in such a manner it can be loosely applied

the camera's are dual function - anti red running and speed enforcement

the locations are listed in the az republic or az central

but pretty much everywhere on arizona ave as well as major east/west streets

the one in question that popped me was at riggs and gilbert

Agreed. Just wanted to be clear on what the law actually says rather than blanket statements of legality.

I've been pulled over in my wifes car for having a lightly smoked plate cover that was totally visible from a couple hundred feet easy, if you're trying to see it. I'm just glad he took the time to pull you over and let all the illegal immigrants, drug transporters, and kidnapping victims in trunks, move along with the flow of traffic.

Well...they do use photoshop to change the colors and manipulate the photo to bring out the numbers...

And I don't know about the other cities, but Mesa is also converting all red light cameras to being speed on green.

This is why I have the plate ... Not because I am a reckless speeder but rather its simply a money making venture.

That is f'n bogus. If they can trust a person to manipulate photos, what's stopping them from making errors or even worse ... 'this number LOOKS like a 2 so I'll just put a 2 in there'.

If you want to stop the tickets, all you gotta do is wear a full face helmet all the time. They can't see your face clearly, no tickie.

Especially good for motorcycle riders.

I never got the plate covers. Theres multiple reasons to _want_ to have your plate read at any angle. Not just for the cops to catch you doing illegal things.

1. Car is stolen
2. Amber Alert type of things where people are looking for a specific car...

Just to name 2 off the top of my head.

I guess those covers just help out illegal activity. (shrug)

Seriously, what do you think the chance of the same make/model/year of your car having a similar plate down to one number?

i bet they have ass rendering technology - where if they cant read the plate -

they hook up to the "main frame" and run your ass end through 1 trillion ass ends in different colors, makes, models and years

think fbi finger print data base

You were doing 45 in a 65 in the carpool lane? Did you have a passenger? Why were you only going 45?

Just making sure it wasn't a typo....
You are absolutely right, which is why I was asking.....
I am well aware of the morning rush hour, I travel it every morning. Again, that's why I was asking....
