I recently purchased an 08 WRX and am looking at vishnu tuning chips. I want to keep my stock computer and get another computer to get reflashed and then chipped. Can I use an 07 or prior year ecu?

doubt it. Your best bet would probably be to wait till either open source comes out with support for the 08 or go with an AP when Cobb comes out with support. From a quick look at the vishnu site it doesn't look like they have support for 08 yet either.

Any guesses on when open source will support the new 08's? I know the new Imprezas have a CAN-bus ECU architecture but I am unsure what exactly that entails.

Colby of Ecuflash is working on cracking the CANbus ECUs. He'll also need to release a new tactrix cable to support it. Hard to say when that will be, though. Even after he does, further work will need to done to reverse- engineer the rom to add support to the Enginuity/Ecuflash definitions. If it is drastically different than prior years, then it might take some time.

The UTEC is out for the 08. It is not a reflash but can be taken out if you dont want it down the road. PM us if you have any questions.
