Thumbs up Albany Subaru, SF bay area

Hi all. Nice folks, we ordered a WRX wagon in silver for $300 over invoice, and my father in law ordered an RS sedan in silver for $200 over invoice. This is at Albany Subaru, on San Pablo Ave. Talk to Myers, he was our sales guy. Low pressure, great prices, no bull. I did shop around, and Subaru of Santa Cruz was close in price, but couldn't match what Albany would sell the cars for.

Marin subaru was okay- didn't get a good feeling there though. I avoided Oakland subaru, when I went to test drive a WRX last year at oakland, I really was shocked at how poorly I was treated, by both the salesperson and the manager. I have never recieved such poor treatment in my entire life at any car dealership, and they will never recieve any business from me, ever.

So if anyone is still looking to buy a new Subie, WRX or otherwise, I give Albany and Myers a big thumbs up. Tell em you heard about them from i-club, he'll take care of you.

Glen

An update, our WRX wagon and my father in laws RS sedan are supposed to be here on March 18th, with another batch of cars from Japan. Myers at Albany is pretty cool, he said they have a few WRXs left, I may go test drive a sedan. That would be a lot of subarus in the family. As an aside, Myers told me he could get good deals for i-clubbers. Thought I'd mention it.

Update- we are buzzing around in our WRX wagon right now. Fantastic. My father in law decided to order a new WRX sedan instead of getting the RS from Albany. Myers gave him a price of $300 over invoice for this car, no haggling. I thought this was excellent, considering my father in law could care less about getting a good deal, he just wanted the car with an automatic, which no one had. So, hope this helps out any i-clubbers looking for a WRX in the bay area,

Glen

Thumbs up

I used to take my 1995 L for service at Albany Subaru until I replaced it with a 2002 model. Purchased my 2002 Impreza (Sd, 5MT) from them too. Was on the waiting list and finally got it April 11, 2001 (last year). It had 7 miles on the odo. There wasn't much haggling, and I was happy with the price. Myers was the one who handled the purchase. Didn't charge me extra for the spoiler.
Had a CE light problem around June last year, and they gave me a rental for the duration of repair (shipped the ECU somewhere for reprograming at that time).
Overall, I'm satisfied with their service, particularly the service department.

That's where I got my RS from. Cyrus was a great guy to work with...no haggling, or pressure.

ditto on the praise for albany ford subaru. i worked with marcelo orantes (salesguy), munzer mohammed (internet rep), and john nakamura (the owner). fabulous service, awesome price. definitely recommended.

ditto on the complaints on oakland subaru too. their managers really pissed me off...i mean it, "pissed" me off. extremely rude and antagonistic, gimmicky, and altogether unpleasant. in fact, i cringe and almost cry for every subaru i see with a dealer license plate placeholder from oakland. if you knoe how to deal, they can give you a good price too but albany will match it without any of that unnecessary abuse and crap oakland puts you through.

My wife and I are from Oakland too, and really wanted to support Oakland commerce (Jerry Brown's whole "Shop Oakland" thing), but after seing the reputation that Oakland Subaru had echoed here amongst knowledgeable enthusiasts, we decided to go with Albany too.

None of the salespeople that you all mentioned were there, but Keith was a super mellow guy who gave us all the information we needed in a really honest way. We ended up paying below invoice (2004 red, automatic wagon so it was on sale), but because we mentioned Nasioc, they didn't charge us the CC fee for our deposit (~$300 savings).

Overall good experience and would definitely recommend.

In case any of y'all are looking, the manager there said they had way too many STI's in stock right now...

Just adding another praise for Albany Subaru. I actually live right behind the hill from them. I had no intention of buying walking into the showroom but was treated super nicely with no pressure or BS at all. Got to test drive an 06 WRX Limited and an 06 STI, sure I wasn't allowed to take the STI far or onto the freeway because they wanted to keep it super new for the the future owner but I was surprised they let me drive it. And ever since they acknowledged the fact that I'm in the neighborhood it got even better, the sales manager told me when I want to buy he'll show me the invoice and I can name my price, as long as they can profit (honest comment) they'll sell. And now it seems like their service department is superb as well! Fantastic! TWO BIG THUMBS UP FOR ALBANY SUBARU!

Thumbs down If you've modded your car - don't bring it here

Albany Subaru seems to freak out everytime I've brought my car in for service. I have a few visible mods - turbo back exhaust, sway bars, and sti springs. And they love giving me a hard time about it.

After hearing some kind of clunking/rattling noise, I brought my car in for inspection and was promptly told "This is not a warranty issue." So I paid them $108.00 for an "inspection fee" and all they did was tighten a couple of bolts. The problem still exists.

Though I've heard Munzer is a good salesman, I will avoid Albany Subaru henceforth.

We jsut picked up a new 08 STi from Albany. Dealing with Stephan Lao and John Nakamura was more than a pleasure to deal with. called them one day and said what i was looking for. they gave me more than a fair price. flew up the next week and Stephan drove out to the airport to pick us up. in about 10-15 minutes i was driving out of the dealership in my new car.

i'd highly recommend going there to buy a subie.
