Default Dealer won't fix problem under warranty

Hi all, I'm looking for advice. My WRX is making the cold-start knocking noise that some people have reported here on i-club (search for "knocking noise" if you're curious), and that supposedly can be fixed by replacing a timing belt tensioner. The dealer I bought it from gave that same diagnosis, but won't fix it under warranty because they claim Subaru "knows about the problem and has not yet come out with an approved fix." What should I do??

Thanks for any input!

where did you bring it to? Stevens Creek? Bring it to Santa Cruz Subaru and talk to Bruce Feinberg. 1-831-420-1500

I brought it to Carlsen in Redwood City, where I bought the car. I plan to bug Subaru about the issue when I get the case number and info in the mail from Carlsen. In the meantime, I'm just looking for advice since this is not a situation I have encountered before...

serious dude, iBlueVirus is right - Bruce will bend over backwards to make sure that you're happy - go to Santa Cruz Subaru - they kick a$$

Thanks for the tip, I'll give him a call, but I'm in SF so I can't really leave my car there in Santa Cruz (since the proposed repair will probably require leaving the car). And it doesn't matter that I didn't get the car there?

Warantee work is paid for by Subaru, not the dealership.

Imagine if you moved to Arizona and needed work under warantee. What good would a warantee be if you had to drive it to CA to get it fixed for free.

In short, no, it doesn't matter where you get warantee work done.

Angry knocking

i work at a toyota dealer(capitol) we have some cars like that with brakes. toyota knows about the problem but are waiting on parts. iam sure in time subaru will come up a updated part and then subaru will give you a call or if becomes a big problem they will make a recall.
