Is there any way to tell what the motor is without the sticker?

I just bought a motor/trans. And I am trying to figure out what it was. I know what the transmission, but the motor is missing the sticker that tells what it is.

Is there another vin somewhere?

The serial number is 296110.

there should be a stamp on the motor below the intake manifold

I don't have the vin, no front clip. Just a JDM motor/trans together.

But they aren't from the same car. Trans says its a version 2 STi RA

Motor.. don't look like it, more like a 3/4

I am trying to figure out if its a STi motor. The Intake manifold was redone crinkle red, so it could have been a WRX motor.. OR idk

Its not a WRX motor from 2002-2005.

It's definitely a JDM one from like 94-98

it doesn't look as if the motor/trans are from the same car.

Intake manifold was definitely redone before it arrived in america.

Looks like JDM Ver. 2 or 3 WRX. Could be STI, can't really tell much difference without seeing the intercooler or ECU.

Does the transmission have DCCD?

It looks like its supposed to have it. But it doesn't I don't think. (like it was removed)

according to the trans vin its either a WRX-RA or STi-RA transmission.

But there is no intercooler, and the ECU I don't have pics of yet because the parts are still at the warehouse.

Is there a plug toward the back of the transmission? If there is then it should have DCCD. I can't remember if the plug is black or white.

where exactly?

I had Kevin@GT look at the pictures. He says it's supposed to have DCCD but it doesn't look like it does.

its parts from 2 cars
the tranny is the v2 RA 3.9
the engine is ver 3 or 4 ej20k

look at the turbo numbers and I believe the catherinandken site has the serial numbers listed. That should help with v3 or v4.

The ECU says

A18 000 D35... which translates to a V3 WRX STi

so where did ya find out what the ecu number translate out to? post/thread? i've been trying to id my suspected v5 sti for confirmation (not to mention i should take a gander at how bad the ecu wiring is, as i didn't do it. i think it should be all stock on that end tho)

crinkle red mani is V3-4(or newer). iirc V2 had alum intake mani. unless someone redid it to look newer.

correct. forgot those. iirc the V2 base STi had none but the better RA, and 555 had it.

seems like a lot of hybrids being sold around lately. i fear the worst when i see a mismatch sold as a V3 STi, etc. shady people.....

I will have to research but I am almost positive that is not a V2 engine.

Here are the reasons

1. The plug wires run to a cap on the intake manifold (Ver 3 and later)
2. The turbo set up, the heat shield is Ver 3 or later older models had a vent hole that got air from the stock splitter on the hood. The Ver 2 had the same air intake set up as the older models.
3. The power steering pump is also different from a Ver 2 model.

This engine is from a Ver 3 or later, I am not sure if the V4 had the plug wire setup on the center of the intake manifold or to the left of it.

I will have to look in the books but everything visual on the engine itself says Ver 3 or later!!
