No but we usually meet and greet at the hotel on Thurs night, hit up some food, party til the weee hrs of the morning.

SOA will be on Friday during the day, but we aren't meeting there, they will only allow us in in one group, so you can't just show up at SOA.

HI!

thanks to ian i now know about this thread!

i am not big on the pine barrons for some reason. i will have the 06sti that is all track preped riding on very stiff (12k/10k) coilovers. im sure we will figure something out, dont plan the route around my car tho. i can always meet you on the other side if needed. we will see. after the 16-17th i will have some time to start making door prize calls unless someone else wants to do it.

I have to see if I can drive the subaru by then. Little know but on 10/07 I had a major motorcycle accident and pretty much destroyed my left leg. A snapped femur, 3 torn ligaments, the muscle connected to the 4th was torn and warped, the patella was torn off and a small fracture on my tibia. Point being the WRX has a pretty heavy clutch for a car and I have no idea how long it'll take before my left leg will be able to operate that clutch. I just had my last surgery last friday and my rehab starts next week. I should be able to luckily make a full recovery however that's estimated to take a year. I would have the GF do the drive but I honestly don't trust her to drive it in the snow. I'll still do what I can to help Mike out this year as well and have some ideas to make the ride even better. Worse case scenario is that it would be my first year as a non driver if someone is willing to drive me around if I can't drive the suby.

And that pic of me getting stuck was cause of deep ass soft snow- snow tires wouldn't of got me out of it anyway. Snow tires help but a set of good all season tires are fine. If you run RE-92's just be VERY careful, their snow and wet traction is less then desirable

Well here's to yet another great ride, I can't wait to see everyone again and see what kinda stupid things I do this year. All I know is I'm gonna be 30 by the time it's over

Cool, glad to hear from Ted and Trenton on this thread.

Ted-I am planning on contacting a few places for door prizes. I will talk with you via PM or IM sometime.

Trenton-I am sorry to hear about your accident; I'm glad you will be able to make a full recovery. And I hope you will be able to make the drive one way or another.

Trenton, you can ride along with me once the crew gets to NY on Friday if you want. If you annoy me though, you're going on the roof rack.

Seriously though, sorry to hear about the accident. Is there anyone that we can sue for your injuries or was the accident an accident?

As usual, I will likely meet up Friday night in NY when you are on your way through, or meet up Saturday morning depending on the stops.

Mike, if you need me to arrange the dinner stop in the Hudson Valley area, let me know.

The accident was an accident. Road over dirt on the road during a turn- if there's enough dirt no matter what on a bike you're going down on a turn. However I may want to sue the town cause they had the audacity to want to give me a careless driving ticket even though there was no cop around to witness it. If that goes through and they really find me guilty on that I would look to sue for damages cause they didn't maintain their roads which lead to my accident. I normally wouldn't go sue happy but if they so much as take a penny from me I will take everything I can from them.

i'll put it out there:

every year i have gone, there has been damage to at least one car.

2004 - my car lost an eye-brow(rice!), and got SEVERAL paint chips on the front, and i broke my clutch pedal return spring.
2005 - Ted's car chipped my windshield..well, flung up a rock that chipped it. Jenni ran her RS off the road and scuffed the bumper a little?
2006 - more chips in windshields, an armada getting pulled over, cars getting parts messed up upon removal from snowbanks.
2007 - teds trans broke, i bent 3 wheels, bubbled 2 tires, ripped a CF lip off the front of our [stock height]STI, billy broke his car...the entire thing. twice...no, 3 times.
Sonny ripped off part of his rear fender flare
emotional damage handed out by Ted tops everything though... if you cant take isht, stay away!

if your car is something you think should be kept in a garage and only driven on nice days, bugger off, this trip is NOT for you...we dont rub cars with diapers here...we drive them thru sand, snow, mud and dirt covered back roads..then dont even wash them off for a while afterwards.
you will do fine in a bone stock car on RE92's...just know what they can and cannot do. however i will point out that we are going on the drive one month later than normal, and some of hte precious years we've got some heavy snow here and there..which has caused issues. and from what i see in the Tri-state forums, the snow storms get a little more frequent after the normal 48Hrs week. however your not hte only person driving a stock car on the roads with standard tires... there are other people in the world that do fine...so im sure anyone on here can.

LMAO! was it really that many times. I guess that is a lil bit more then the norm for me.

I promise to have my stuff taken care of this year prior to going. Every year before this im usually working/broke and dont have time to do such things. Now that i know i will have some cash and time to get things done the car will be 100%, at least when we leave

OK as great as Murray's last post was I feel a few things need to be cleared up. We don't wanna scare too many people away from the drive.....ehh maybe we should .

Ok nothing here happened that couldn't happen with everyday driving. However I find it funny that your car hit/almost hit teds in 2004 with the eye-brow THEN in 2005 his car causes a chip in your windshield. Overall I'd say Ted won that war .

OK; Billy had 4 issue's during the drive and basically they were 1 after we fixed another.

1-Clutch died: billy delt with this w/o too many issues. Honestly having the group and CB's made that fairly easy. We fixed this sunday morning.
2-Rocks in tire bead: Once off the unmaintained this wasn't too much of an issue. Won't happen to those who do NOT do donuts in the mud. All but non-issue sunday morning.
3-#1 & #2 at the same time: OK this was quite interesting.
4-speedometer broke: again nothing big....and it worked when he pressed the brake pedel...what more do you want.

this does explaine the drive VERY well. The roads will be dirty, salty, muddy, snow/ice probably, & we don't wanna hear anyone whine about it

AS FOR OTHER ISSUE'S MENETIONED: Yes you could end up having to be pulled out of a snow bank. Yes you might get pulled over. If you are on 17" wheels well then you should know the risks (Murray did know this last year and didn't complaine when they bent) involved from seeing pictures. However we try our best to avoid most potential problems.

When I spoke with him at pocono he made it pretty clear he wasn't gonna make the trip even if we went south this year. You can try to convince him since he didn't seem to be liking me for some reason that day.

I spoke to him yesterday. I believe it's the week he starts his new job. It's gonna be pretty impossible for him to make it. I did tell him people are asking about him so I figure he'll chime in soon.

which reminds me...
having lights that work extremly well or additional lights to stock are also a great idea.... previous 2 years we had to stop to clean our lights off because forward visibility was down to about 2 feet. damn NY using that sand/dirt/crap mixture to keep roads unfrozen.

Hopefully this year that will be cut down, bc of the colder weather and snow that i am anticipating.

The HID light pod should cut through most of that stuff though

Yeah, the 5 minute jaunt down that back road before stopping was alittle un-nerving since I couldn't see anything but the taillights of the car in front of me, bring something to clean your lights JIC.

Unhappy

You guys like me! You guys, really like me! *sniff*

As others have already said, I can't make it this year.

I'll be moving to South Carolina to start a new job & life as a Southerner come January or so. Even though it's only 12 hours from NYC, that plus the entire trip would wipe me out. (I am getting old, you know.)

I'll miss making fun of Trenton with Billy, Mike, Paisan, Alex & the rest of the gang. I'll also miss giving Ted a great BIG, loving hug.

Maybe I'll give Paisan a transcript of some of my infamous, "Stories from the ER." Then maybe Alex, or whomever, read them over the CB radio to entertain everyone.

But since I'm not going, I have a set of mounted Blizzaks that'll need a new home once I move south. I'll be using them until I move & will offer them up for sale sometime in January. (Just in time for the 48 Hrs.)
