i bought an xpt stg 2 map with gm bcs map for my 04 wagon. i was wondering how hard it would be to change the map to make a winter map. lower boost is mainly what id like.

Not hard at all. Air density in cold weather might change by 10% at most I'd say so you can just drop your boost targets by 10% or so. Will probably run rich at WOT when you go open loop but you can adjust those to if needed. The ECU might be able to compensate for that a little, even if you left the fuel map alone.

Reflashes should not need to be specially winterized if the map is setup well to begin with.

I would rather run more boost in the winter if i have the fuel for it.

There are compensation maps for boost control to do this. That's one of the nicer points of the stock ECUs. Mainly there is a wastegate duty and timing compensations based on intake air temp.
The colder inlet air and colder air over the intercooler means you're flowing a lot more air at the same boost. Higher loads for sure. Spool improves, you need less wastegate duty, etc. Add more boost on top of that and you're *really* flowing a lot more air and definitely making more power. I guess I don't care to set up my car to do that when I'm running poorer tires in poorer conditions. YMMV. |
