Default 235 or 225 on a 7.5 rim?

I just bought some 17x7.5 SSR Comps and was wanting to put some 235/40/17 Hankook Rs2 Z212 on them, but Hankook says the minimum rim width for these tires is 8 inches. I know these tires will fit the rims, but my question is if there would be any difference in performance squeezing the 235s on rather than putting on the better fitting 225s. I just spent the last hour searching NASIOC on topics like this, but all I get is mixed answers. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have the exact same wheels and run 235/40-17 FK452 tires. They fit A-OK and the slightly smaller diameter (and resulting shorter FD) is good for your tranny and fun around town.

As long as you get a tire with a stiff sidewall, you won't get any squish when cornering.
