Default Borla 11843 exhaust on my 2012 Impreza wagon

There really aren't any good videos of the Borla 11843 for the 2012+ Impreza wagon / XV, especially with a manual transmission. I just got this yesterday, so here's what it sounds like with very few miles on it.

Overall I'm very happy with it. It's the perfect sound for a daily driver - it won't wake up my wife in the morning but I will always hear it.

Sound is nice between 1k rpm and 4k rpm. Above 4k rpm you only hear the engine and induction noise.

It's not very loud, but it's definitely noticeable as an aftermarket exhaust. Sounds great while accelerating. Has the typical sputtering sound of an exhaust like this on a 4-cylinder car.

But it does sound kind of nice. Almost like my friend's R32 on startup, a little too farty sounding for my taste though. Needs more deep.

Nice video. Too aggressive for me, though I'd have a silent muffler if one existed.

What's inside that muffler (chambered, glasspack)?

I have the same model on my car. I wish it was deeper. A bit tinny. I also wish it was a little bit louder.

Thanks guys.

There's definitely more bass in real life than in the video. I don't have good audio recording equipment.

The muffler cost $326.17 from AuthAnything, so the price wasn't terrible.
I originally ordered a RalliSportRacing axle-back on 10/10, and haven't heard from the guy since. After filing a PayPal dispute (which should clear today because he still never replied) I decided to just get the Borla and hope it sounded good. This is cheaper than the RSR one.

I recoded the outside shots with a Canon T2i, so it's using the crap onboard microphone. Inside shots are GoPro Hero 2. Listening on a decent PC headset like my Logitech G930, it is close to real life with the bass boosted a bit, about +4dB on their simple menu in their "Logitech Gaming Software" for those with a similar setup.

I love borla products and sound. 330 is still high for me but if its the sound you like its worth the price.

Is this just a replaced muffler and nothing else? It sounds good.

Interesting. Can you do some drive bys? I'm always worried that these aftermarket mufflers will sound brappy, raspy or fart-can-y.

Also, how's the drone at 80+ mph?

It will be a few days before I can do that but I'll try to get it done. Bad weather and a very busy schedule will make it tough.

I'll chime in since I have one installed. No drone. You here it between 3-4k.

Crosstrek with a Magnaflow resonator and quad-tip Magnaflow muffler:

Impreza with Maganflow muffler:

I really like the Crosstreks resonator+muffler low tone. The Impreza's Magnaflow muffler sounds too "add-on". I wish I could experiment without laying $400-600 on the line so I appreciate you guys sharing your mods.

Tried a muffler delete and it was way too fricken loud and droney. Tried the washer mod of varying counts and that was also loud and droney although 1 washer per bolt was getting real close.

I feel like there's some great low tone to be had without being too loud (My Impreza has a CVT, I'm getting old, have 2 kids, and need to drive colleagues around occasionally).

explain this washer mod for me. Is it what I think it is? put some washers between the muffler and the mid pipe? the more washers the less muffled it is, the fewer washers, the more muffled it is?

Anyone interested in Rallisport v1 headers? they'll add the deep sound youre looking for, sending my car back to stock so theyre up for grabs along with a magnaflow magnapack axleback, I believe 18129 custom fitted to hang like the stock hatch muffler. PM if interested
