Default gas mileage sucks

Ive been running a stage 1 map for a while now and gas mileage was close if not better than stock. Well i put on my TBE and installed the up pipe, dropped in a K&N filter and flashed a stage 2 map. Now my gas mileage SUCKS. is this normal?

Make sure your primary o2 sensor is on there good and there are no leaks in the uppipe connections. Stage 2 base maps are usually set to be richer than stock.

Maybe you are just enjoying mashing the gas pedal more than usual now?

If anything, you should see an improvement in efficiency, I know I saw it get a little better after I mellowed out.

Lay off the gas....

Best gas saving investment for me was a boost gauge, stay within -10 and 0 PSI and you'll see improvements.

and don't tell us in terms of how many miles to the tank you get, that is nearly useless... (unless you are getting something like 150 miles until the empty light comes on, THEN you have a serious issue!)

Oh yeah, and fill out your profile so we know what you have.

FWIW, my '02 with Cobb Stg 2, TBE, and a gutted up got 29.5 mpg @ 70-75mph on the freeway. I would usually average 24mpg with a 50/50 mix of town and freeway.

holy cow bushflyr, thats not too shabby! what rpms are you at when your cruising at 75? iirc im at 3500 or so at 70-75, so the tdo4 is fully spooling. if im at 55-60, im at about 2200, and not much spool, i can get about 25-27 mpg. it would be nice to get out of the granny lane and still get good gas mileage...

I don't recall the exact RPM's, but I've a stock trans so whatever that works out to. And, for the record, that was ALL freeway miles. I filled up in Gig Harbor WA, drove 200 yards to the freeway, cruised to Portland, did about 1 mile on side streets, back on the fwy to GH and refilled at the same station. I think MAP is right about 0 bar at that speed.
