Default Subaru's screwed up alarm system

Today I had a little issue. My subaru remote entry clicker FOB wouldnt unlock or lock the doors. I hit each button about 15 times each and nothing. This has happened once before but I was able to hit the button in a different way and make it unlock the car. Rather annoying but it was something I could deal with.

Today the key FOB was dead dead. So I had to use the KEY of all things to unlock the car door. When I did this the alarm started to go off. This is about the stupidest thing I have ever seen.

Is there a way to disable this "feature" that Subaru gave us. I've also noticed the same thing with the trunk which is also rather annoying.

Of course once I got home the key FOB was working like normal. I have no idea if the battery is about to die or what. I'm going to switch it out with the other one for a few days until I can snag a new battery.

If you look in the manual, there are a few entries on the alarm: changing chirps, alarm settings, and disabling. The factory setting for the alarm system includes an alarm if you open the door with the key, but I believe there is a full-time 'valet' mode that does not sound the alarm when opening with a key.

As for the fob...I pulled my '06 fob out of the washing machine, checked for moisture inside, and it's been working well for some time. Is your registration sticker blocking the eye on the dash (somebody is going to correct me and say it's not important)?

I'll have to look into that. I've read the manual but not recently and nor with specific focus on this issue.

I think it's the stupidest thing ever that you cant open the door/trunk with the KEY without the alarm going off.

Thanks.

If you think that is stupid, just wait until you have to reprogram the dead remote. If its not totally dead yet, get a new one in there before it dies and you wont have to reprogram it. The part # is on the back of the remote.
To disarm totally: sit in the car close the doors and hold down the door UNLOCK button, open the door within ONE second and hold the button for TEN seconds. The horn should honk and the trip meter should show "ALoF". You no longer have an alarm.
To disarm once: Open the door hold the rubber door light button in and lock the car with the power door lock switch. Close the door. No alarm.

To disarm the alarm without the key fob, open the door with the key and turn the key ON-OFF 3 or 5 times. It's in the manual.

To lock the car without the alarm activating, you just stick the key in the door and lock it.

Since you indicated that when you get home the key fob works fine, here are some suggestions I have heard,
Electric interference, as in nearby electric wires of transformers.
High humidity.
Not pressing the button hard enough.
are some reasons why the key fob might not work sometimes.

To lock the car without activating the alarm, do this.
After getting to your destination, while you are still inside the car, if there are more people in your car, be the last person to come out, before getting out, lock the doors with the master switch on the door.
Then, manually open just your door, step out, then, manually flip the door switch to lock your door, then, close the door.
Make sure, you have the car key in your hand, because the locking system will not automatically unlock, and the unlock button from the remote will not work if the key is in the ignition.
This process will not activate the alarm, thus, opening a locked car with your key will not set off the alarm.

I do like the idea of an alarm. I also like the idea of my actual KEY not activating the alarm.

I think the "valet" mode described about might do this but I'm not sure. Either way the car has an imbolizer correct so it shouldnt start without the key.

I'll second that /\ /\ !! Having the key itself set off the alarm is ludicrous.
