Default balancing w/ weights on the inside?

since the weights on the outside of the rim look horrible, would there be any problem with putting them on the insides of the wheel?

Most of the shops I work with here don't even think about putting the weights on the outside of the rim (unless it is a stock rim) My assumption is that there are certain cases where they must to get a good balance.

They should be able to balance the wheel using stick on weights that go inside the hoop of the wheel instead of crimp on weights that go on the outer lip...inboard and outboard placement does not yield the same balance. A good machine will tell the operator if the weight should go inboard or outboard to correct vibrations.
