Default EJ20G Problem. Please help ASAP

I have an interesting EJ20G problem that I was hoping someone might be able to help me resolve. When starting the car on a cold start it generally starts fine. Once it warms up if you try and turn it off and turn it back on it will just crank until the battery dies and not start. It smells like gas and seems as though the car has flooded itself out. When warm if you try and start the car with you foot on the gas all the way to the floor it will usually start.

It has been throwing a CEL, blinking code 42 which is "Unusual voltage from the idle switch" The problem has been getting progressively worse and now has been having a hard time with cold starts as well. Hopefully someone has an answer or a suggestion. Also, could someone show me a picture of the idle switch on an EJ20G? I'm not sure of the location or what it looks like. Thanks for your help guys.

Sounds like your IAC is ether now wired up properly or is broken. Check for Voltage going in, as well as Voltage coming out going to the ECU. Also make sure that the ground is hooked up properly.

Little update, attempted cleaning the TPS sensor with electrical parts cleaner and the problem, along with the CEL, disappeared for about a day. Shortly thereafter the CEL came back and it started not wanting to catch at all, just cranking. I've found that if I disconnect the TPS sensor and the harness for the 5th injector and crank the car with the gas pedal on the floor it will start reliably. The TPS sensor is going to be replaced with a USDM 2.2L Legacy Turbo sensor later this week and we'll see how that works.

I had the same problem on mine. It is $10 sensor, the cam timing sensor I believe it's called. Well i'll double check that name, but i think it's right

This sounds like a problem that I had with my EJ20G conversion (minus the CEL code), I found that it was the cam and/or crank angle sensors. I was told this is a common problem with all Subaru EJ engines. I have changed mine and the problem went away.

Installed the new TPS sensor, no more code thrown and the idle is behaving more as it should. Starting problem still occurred occasionally so I pulled both the crank angle sensor and the cam position sensor and cleaned them with electronic parts cleaner. Both had a slight build up of black soot. So far the starting issue seems to have gone away and all is well. More updates to come.
