personally i wouldnt go wider than 235 on an 8, some 245s will be rated to go on an 8 inch wide some wont, but it will probably feel spongy regardless depending on the tire you get

I think a 245/40-17 will fit fine. My last 2 sets of track tires were 245/40-17 on a 17x8 and worked great. A 255 would be pushing it.

235's worked nicely on my 17x7.5's.

I'd have no problem at all putting 245's onto 8" wide wheels.

Car will be used for road courses, and daily driver. I can get the kuhmo ecsta mxs locally. But has anyone run the 245/40/17 on an 17x8 wheel? If you have, what tire pressures did you run for street, as well as on the track. Im gonna order these tires tomorrow.

255/40 will fit and look fine... (friend's ride, not mine, 17x8 Rotas, gharari is his screen name):

615s are unusually wide for their nominal size, so I imagine the MXs would be even better.

If you're not stock height you may run into clearance issues either autox or track, but shouldn't on the street.

Lol, S-Tech is like a swear word around here.

How wide a tire can fit in your wheel well before rubbing? 235, 245 is not a problem on an 8" wide rim. Whatever you use still has to fit without rubbing though.

hahaa yeah i got that impression, so they kill my ride quality. Already sucks who cares. Im curious to see what will rub, I guess ill figure it out tomorrow when the springs go on. I cant imagine a 245 which is .5 I believe wider rubbing, its a slightly taller tire so its not a big deal there. We shall see.

Would be fine. A better choice for an STI than a WRX because it helps stretch out the gearing a little.

What about 245/45/17 on stock sti wheels with Eibach springs. For road courses and will probably be Falken RT615's

You need to be very selective in your tire choice with Eibach springs (assuming ProKit). I rubbed 225/45/17 both front (inner fender liner) and rear (outer) on max-g turns at track days, and occasionally autox. 245/45s are considerably taller, though 245/40 is a great choice with that spring (it's a tad lower than OEM in most fitments), though you still may have issues with the inner fender liner, depending on your camber.

Caveat: I was on 17x8.5 +48 wheels, and an 04 vs your 06.

I've long since ditched the Eibach springs (now running Zero 2Rs). I did like them for their street ride and they were satisfactory for autox and track days on street tires, but just too limiting in what tire I could run.
