Default Oh man! Massivive wheel wells!

Instead of getting new tires for my 17" wheels, I tried saving some money by going with 205/45/16 all seasons on my stock wheels for now. I went with the lower profile cause I wasn't diggin the "ballon tire" look. But now I got these massive wheel gaps staring me in the face! I think I'm gonna have to slam the crap out of my car this weekend. Good thing I got coilovers.

Anyone here pull off this tire size on your WRX and get it to look right?

Anyone know if this will affect my speedometer/mileage?

Ya. Those tires are about an inch and a half too short. Your speedo and odo will be about 7% too fast. When your speedo reads 60mph you'll actually only be going 56mph. For every 1000 miles you drive your odo will count 1070 miles. You will probably be able to accellerate off the line quicker, but you'll have to shift sooner and your top speed will be limited. Your engine will rev a lot higher for a given speed too, so cruising down the highway will put more stress on the engine, and you'll probably get poorer highway gas milage. In the city you can just drive in a higher gear than you normally would so it might even save you gas.

Most car manufacturers recommend staying within about 2% or 3% of the stock tire diameter.

yea... thanks for the response. I was just reading a few posts that basically agree with your answer. I guess they will have to make due for now. Damn I wish I would have done some research on that before hand but I was driving around with a donut for like almost a week. And I drive alot.

Where did you buy them from? If it was a tire shop did they warn you these were the wrong size tires? If they didn't warned you then I think you could easily get then exchanged for the correct size. You'd just have to pay the price difference. My tire shop warns me everytime I buy H-rated tires instead of the V-rated RE92's that came on my car. It's not that they are trying to sell me something different - they just want to cover their asses if something happens and I try to sue them for selling me a tire that is rated less than the OEM tires without my knowledge. I would think selling someone tires that were an inch-and-a-half too short would raise a lot of warnings.

Many places have a 30-day money-back-if-you're-not-completely-happy policy anyway, so even if they did tell you you might be able to get them exchanged.

Got them from tire rack. I didn't fill out the vehicle description. I don't know what their return policy is but they're already mounted on my car. They're Yokohama Advan H4S's if anyone with a diff car is intrested in a trade.

I see that tire size used a lot in the honda community. the wheels look way to tiny on wrx's when they are that small. They'd look okay on the older body subaru ((being a smaller car))
