Default 05 wrx rim and tire question

i was thinking of getting rota rev rims for my car in the springtime. i want to go with 17's because that would be 1 inch up on my stock 16's. 18's are pretty much for show, right? I was going to go with 7.5wide or 8.0 wide. which one would be best in terms of handling? Would 8.0 be too wide?

I don't know which summer tires to go with? I was looking at Falken but im not sure if those are good tires for chicago summers from april to october and i want to make sure the tires are good for above 45 degrees. Any suggestions on somewhat quiet tires that perform well and are not more than $150 a piece? Thanks again.

17x8 would be perfect, and gives you more choices of what tire size you can run.

Which Falkens are you talking about? The 452 is a good summer tire. The rt-615 is more extreme than that.

Not sure which falkens, i think it was the rt-615's i was looking at. By extreme, do you mean better? Thanks again. The 452, is that a good tire though in terms of handling and quietness? I am not going to lower my car or anything and i dont want to worry about rubbing issues even if i have a full car of people.

More extreme meaning closer to a racing tire, will not last as long, and not be as good in the rain, although it will be stickier. You can fit a 245/40-17 without worring about rubbing.

i will not be auto-x or racing, this is just for pure driving. Any recommendations on a summer tire that will be good in the rain and make at least 25k miles? would the 452 falkens be it then?

That's what I'd pick. There are some tires out there that may be marginally better, like the Goodyear f1 gs-d3, but it is much more expensive.

^^^^^^^^^^seconded

The GSD3 is better in the wet, but the FK452 creams it in every other category.

From your post and others it looks like a 17x7 will fit the 2005. Do you know if the stock 2008 wheels will fit the 2005 (wagon). They are 17x7 55mm offset (I think the offset is 55). It looks like on a 17x7 everyone recomends a 53mm offset.
